Wow... This is a popular thread.

In the case of Drake being a biter, I don't fully know if he rips off dances or just respects them. I also don't understand why a person who has this level of popularity would need to bite. Everybody's following Drake nowadays and he's certainly defining the style of today's hip-hop. I mean we have more singers who can rap/vice versa than ever before. If "So Far Gone" wasn't released then it wouldn't be Drake season right now.

Also consider this, Drake's fanbase is extremely unique and Drake's records are also instantly recognizable; it should be a mystery as to why Drake is popular but there isn't. He has this backstory/persona built up about being a chick magnet/smooth lover/person who everybody wants to be on and it's extremely ingulging. It's like reading one of those gossip magazines. I just want to wonder what has Drake experienced, what is Drake doing right now; I may not be sure if he does live that life but it's fascinating to read.

Anyways, sampling is a part of hip-hop culture but unoriginality is not. Drake can sometimes be unoriginal but never has he had to ride the trends in order to remain popular. Those that constantly ride trends to keep themselves popular instead of being themselves are instantly cast down into the depths of h--- never to ride again. Sauce Walka does have a point in that his behaivor is questionable (as in constantly "respecting" dances) but never has he had to resort to other trends, he himself makes the trends. ("Hotline Bling")

alright i'm gonna remove myself from this conversation if people are going to be all revisionist and say drake wasn't a direct and complete child of 808s & Heartbreak.

The main influence Kanye has had on Drake is obviously sonically and that is pretty clear on his early work (SFG and TML). But ever since Take Care, the Kanye influence has been dwindling. On top of that, Kanye has had only a little influence on Drake the rapper, maybe a little as a singer.

But when you use Kanye as the bar, who hasn't he influenced because its a very shortlist?
