Mar 29, 2015 @Worm when you do a Google image search of your avy the first result is your post in the kendrick album thread where we thought it was gonna drop in January
Mar 29, 2015 I know I have a very unpopular view and I don't do it to be different. I just really don't see what's so good about the album besides production and in some parts over production...some tracks I barely have plays because the song ends but there's 2 minutes of instrumental
Mar 29, 2015 see that's where we differ. Some people love that, I don't. That's what I meant by it's more of a musical than a rap album. Never said it was terrible it just isn't my thing. It lacks lyrical content. I get that somethings wrong and he holds his head while his n----- MJ is dead but it's lazy...like that's that's almost half the lyrics in the song minus the bridge
Mar 29, 2015 and that's why Drake/Kanye is a silly comparison. Drake is superior at rapping. Kanye is better at making music. Drake obviously gets beats*, raps or sings over them, calls it a day. Kanye collaborates with producers, writers, singers, etc. to craft the song in it's entirety. edit: *not saying Drake has zero input outside of rapping but Drake mainly works with his in-house guys and they all compliment each other very well. Kanye is the kind of guy to get Elton John for a bridge on a song with a dozen other artists, intricately placed throughout, or links with John Lennon for some casual music making.
Mar 29, 2015 I don't get it. So because on one song where it's supposed to be theatrical (the songs called "all of the lights") and he doesnt really rap, the entire albums just a "musical" and not a strong rap record? What about him and raekwon on Gorgeous, or Power, or h--- of a Life, or him and Ross on Devil in a New Dress, or Blame Game, etc etc etc You're insanely underrating MBDTF/being weirdly dismissive about it while championing anything and everything drake touches
Mar 29, 2015 "Some people love that, I don't" - worm dawg just chill, worm likes more str8 forward rap s---. he's not saying its a bad album or anything, he'd just rather listen to rap songs than an album meant to be appreciated as a whole. at least thats what im taking away from it.
Mar 29, 2015 Was just using All of the Lights as an example. Power is phenomenal, Gorgeous is average and the sound effect really puts me off, Runaway is great until the last few minutes (yes I understand it's him singing which is the sound we hear but it's way too long), Monster and So Appalled are very average tracks, Blame Game is my favorite track off of the album but the Chris Rock outro is horribly unneeded. as @LasiK said above I don't hate it and am trying to be a Drake stan...it just isnt' my thing
Mar 29, 2015 Lol I love how you can go on about how they're just different types of aritsts etc etc, but if I type more than one line about why it's not as black and white as you're painting it, I have to "chill" I never said @Worm 's opinion was wrong, or bad or anything. I'm just trying to point out that his comments on MBDTF are kind of dismissive. So the tracks that are actually rapping heavy don't appeal to you? Just trying to understand where you're coming from...you like Runaway and Blame game when they're as light on rapping as all of the lights You don't find Devil in a New Dress, or h--- of a Life impressive? They're some of my favorite hip hop songs in general
Mar 29, 2015 you're reacting disproportionally homie. me saying chill was 100% laid back dudebro type of chill. it's okay for ppl to like other stuff. I get the desire to defend the things you enjoy, but the world is much happier place when you can read someone else' opinion and say "that's neat. I value that opinion even though mine is different." rather than try to argue why yours is better.
Mar 29, 2015 but thats what im doing. you're taking it and trying to paint it as something else, probably because i come on strong lol ive literally never in my life (after a certain age) cared about what someone else is opinion is. everyone is entitled to enjoy what they please. im always interested in the reasoning behind it though and giving pushback when someone tells me one of my favorite hip hop albums of all times isnt that good of a rap album or whatever, is just part of that dialogue
