Mar 29, 2015 Well if we're comparing artists right now based on their last albums, Chronic 2001 was a classic.
Mar 29, 2015 I think he might be referring to Drake making a song like Jesus walks or Maad City where they are just universally acclaimed/classic records. Personally I think Drake's made excellent full bodies of work and some 11/10 songs here and there like Club Paradise, Marvin's Room, Look What You Done to name a few.
Mar 29, 2015 It is, but the question is who is currently on top. Kanye hasn't really released anything besides All Day and Only one in the last year while Drake has been on countless big songs. I'm not arguing work ethics.
Mar 29, 2015 I agree TPAB isn't decent. Its a certified classic. Kendrick makes timeless records Drake doesn't but makes solid albums though apart from TC.
Mar 29, 2015 No it clearly wasn't. This place and Ktt are the only places I've heard anyone think Yeezus was better than nwts. Professional music critics don't agree with that. Go to public places or any party a few years ago and you would never hear people playing Yeezus over nwts. The Kanye d-ck riding here is sickening.
Mar 29, 2015 TML sounds different than Take Care which sounds different than NWTS which sounds different than IYRTITL. The latter might have taken the sound from a couple songs off of NWTS and expanded upon them, but it's a completely different sound than NWTS overall. In your review you even said he's "extrapolating on the style he birthed and subsequently started to master with tracks like “Worst Behavior.”
Mar 29, 2015 Eh I already got sick of listening to it, no replay value. Drake's albums on the other hand = replay value.
Mar 29, 2015 How? Lol, that would mean I'm being condescending and thickheaded I said Drake's one of my favorite artists out, but just that I don't think he's being as "innovative" or creative as the more core fans seem to believe. I think he's kind of been stuck in place -- even if that place is a very good spot to be at I think MBDTF and Yeezus are better than anything Drake project since Take Care, which I don't think is that crazy to think. And I think Kanye has been around for longer and proved himself more than Drake. I also dont think that comparing the handful of features or singles Kanye's put out to Drake's output since NWTS is fair, but if we had to, I do agree that Drake wins.
Mar 29, 2015 But...they do? http://www.metacritic.com/music/yeezus/kanye-west http://www.metacritic.com/music/nothing-was-the-same/drake People played songs from both NWTS and Yeezus at parties.
Mar 29, 2015 I wouldn't want to discredit songs like Successful, Marvin's Room, Look What You've Done, Pound Cake etc because they're not "moments" like mAAd city. The fact is, his music gets better, not worse with age - Nothing Was The Same is a prime example. But maybe (like you suggest) I misunderstood what he meant by timeless.
Mar 29, 2015 Lol at @tm87 judging albums by who gets played at parties or who the cool people like. What an idiot.
Mar 29, 2015 How is IYRT a "completely different sound" than NWTS? I dont hear that at all. I feel like the it's the same sound developed even more by 40 and co, like you said yourself. And yeah, as that line from my review says, I think he's perfecting that sound -- not doing something radically different as youre suggesting
Mar 29, 2015 Or it could perfectly encapsulate every sound he's mastered over the last 15 years of his life
Mar 29, 2015 What songs from Yeezus were played at parties? Like, were they parties where people got drunk and partied or a bunch of dudes in a room bitching how life isn't fair? You're not trolling me. No one played Yeezus in public. I do remember the fist few minutes of blood on the leaves being played, but that was it.
