To be fair, Views was definitely his most important album. All the hype leading up to the release & it was pretty much a dud. I think Drake has moved away from trying to make that undeniable classic that everyone says he’s missing. I think he’s just making music in the moment now. He’s doing it his way.

Hope he has a way of finessing it back in his favor somewhere on Scorpion.

It WAS. Things have changed since then. More Life was better but was basically a collection of songs he recorded on tour. He hasn’t put together a great project since 2015. Killed everything post More Life until getting exposed by Push like nobody has done to him before. Stayed quiet from Duppy til the album which means he’s treating this like the most important work he’s done in his career, as it should be.

I mean, Prodigy couldn't actually carry over his mature on-wax attitude over to his off-wax life. But there's plenty of better fiscally-conscious rap songs than that one. I understood everything they were saying then. But their "pound-cake"/"U.K. Currency/Off-Shore Dough References were neither all that original, nor were they delivered impressively. This was the period of Jay-Z beginning to flow off-beat. And that was followed up by a weak a--- Paris Morton Music sequel with Drake doing the same thing, cadence-wise, that Jay-Z was doing on "Pound Cake". And the beat is the best part about "Pound Cake". Maybe they're super financially-conscious on that joint, but it put me to sleep. Beat should have been given to someone else. Too good.
