Nov 10, 2023 I like what they did with the mirror in the music video and how people kept disappearing and reappearing.
Nov 15, 2023 My favorite part of “Houdini” is when those synths really kick in during the bridge leading into the last chorus. It’s extremely entrancing, probably due to Kevin Parker.
Nov 15, 2023 Nice I was going to make a joke about Kosovo as well. Let’s just make every country an ethnostate, what’s the worst that can happen!
Nov 17, 2023 Fall asleep to Wolf of Wall Street in one ear & Dua Lipa in the other & it’ll bleed into your subconscious. Good luck man!
Nov 17, 2023 Parts of Houdini reminded me of an '80s Japanese citypop song called Dance in the Memories. Compare especially the vocals at 0:38 in Houdini to those at 0:33 in Memories, and also the instrumental at 2:16 in Houdini to the one at 2:05 in Memories: The similarity between the second pair is less obvious, but Houdini's instrumental part almost sounds to me like a "descending" version of Memories'. This is only remarkable at all because of the much stronger similarity between the first pair. I have no idea if this song inspired Dua Lipa, consciously or not, or if she's even heard it, or if not whether this even counts as a "coincidence" (it occurred to me that it's possible that I just don't listen to enough music lol), but I thought it was interesting.
Nov 17, 2023 Good song! I definitely hear the similarities you’re talking about. I’m not so sure on Dua’s end but I could see a song like this inspiring the producer of “Houdini”, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala fame. Even if him or Dua didn’t hear this song directly, I’m sure Japanese citypop as a whole could’ve had a significant influence on the type of psychedelic synth pop that Dua is going for right now
