Feb 4, 2021 Songs on side b would never make it to a stand alone album. This really feel like b sides/mixtape ish.. not saying thats bad, but it’s still a big difference between side a and b

Feb 4, 2021 Yeah exactly, they’re just meaningless to me, add nothing of value to his discography, they’re just painfully average which can sometimes be worse than completely awful lmaoo I listened to Darkness, You Gon’ Learn, Lock it Up & Leaving Heaven after finishing Side B & the contrast is insane, no comparison to me at all, even when it comes to his vocal mixing.

Feb 4, 2021 I agree that Side A is better overall, but I'd be lying to myself if I say I don't enjoy Side B. Songs like GNAT, Higher, Zeus, Discombobulated, These Demons are valuable contributions to his mostly impressive discography. Though, not a fan of the overkill of dad jokes and silly puns, the sonic appeal of this album does make the puns bearable at the very least. The dearth of substance on this album is quite evident, pretty sure why he went the side B/deluxe route with it rather than releasing it as a solo project.
Feb 4, 2021 I agree that’s why he chose to release it like this, but the music just feels empty even when you can’t critique its sound. I’d probably give the project a 5/10 overall because it’s mostly all middle of the road. Really, really consistent, there’s no outliers at all, but it never reaches highs like Side A & previous projects have for more than a few passages in certain places in my opinion. Like you said, the filler bars of dad puns is extremely unnecessary, Em was so interesting with the way he worded his bars without the in your face “GET IT” wordplay, he doesn’t need a crutch like that.
Feb 4, 2021 Yea it is almost like he has regressed to his Recovery era writing, which was filled with corny puns throughout. Yet again, he comes up with something so witty and impressive sometimes that you wonder if he does those dad jokes ironically. for example, corny lines like these: Reminds me of how an overcrowded hospital waiting room'll get What I mean is maybe I have more patience (patients) than I'm able to admit Now I get paper like a stapler in this b---- are on the same song where he spits witty lines like: That one day someway, somehow, if I get the chance to get a crowd I'd flip it around and have a crowd give me the chants, But just 'cause I made a little bit of change Don't mean I've changed a little bit and I'll take a foe out, like fee-fi-fum.
Feb 4, 2021 I don't think MTBMB is all that and it's considered a good album. I can listen to Side B without skipping tracks, with Side A, that's impossible for me.
Feb 4, 2021 It’s as if he’s gone to the studio after forcing himself through Lil Wayne’s discography from start to finish & the influence of it has seeped its way into his writing lol As that was clearly part of the influence of Recovery too. Quality control & new ideas are the 2 necessary changes for Em to continue on an uphill trajectory.
