Dec 15, 2020 I go by sales, I go by what's on the radio and what is played on TV. No one cares about hip hop, the last time the public cared about hip hop is maybe 2010 when the Black Eyed Peas were singing I've Got a Feeling and Akon was singing songs about women being Beautiful. I'm not saying rappers don't sell a lot of records now and they aren't talented but it's nowhere near the level it used to be and Eminem is nowhere near the level he used to be. The general public largely does not care. Pop music still sells, dance music still sells. Look at rock music. Same thing there, hardly any new rock bands, hardly any actual bands at all. That's all in the past too, you still have a few of the big bands around but none of the new ones are getting any big attention. It's just how music is. And the irony isn't lost on me, most people on this forum wont even buy the music, same with Reddit, these are people that claim to be such big fans and they'll stream it on Youtube for free and Spotify for free. They don't have any intention of actually spending any money and supporting Eminem and actually making a difference. At this stage of the game, people should just be grateful we are getting new music at all. The days were singles were big and music videos were big and there was TV interviews and paparazzi everywhere......that's all been done away for at least 10 years. Same reason why Dre's Compton flopped. The people that cared about Detox moved on. They grew up. The stories about smoking blunts and riding fancy cars and buying jewellery.....it's fantasy. They grew up and got jobs and got families of their own. The public don't care about it anymore. Same thing with Eminem and his family troubles, it was new 20 years ago, it was a niche but people moved on and now he has to invent stories for songs. It'll never be what it was.
Dec 15, 2020 Hot take I think normal is a fun song and it's some if the better examples of recent em trying to do some form of singing
Dec 15, 2020 Farewell one of my favorites to be honest but i can see people hating it especially the hook.
Dec 15, 2020 This has to be a troll, Hip Hop is everywhere in contemporary culture and to deny that is just silly. You need to actually go outside my dude
Dec 15, 2020 I haves mixed feelings about this track. I like the concept though it’s played out, yes I know he’s lyrically superior since his other attempts but 25 to Life was the superior execution, every attempt afterwards feels redundant. I also find the beat to be stale & quite boring, almost sterile. The hook is also very Eminem-esque to the point of it being a bit grating at times, but that beat switch along with the delivery & flow change is incredible.
Dec 15, 2020 The content was awful but sonically it's the best Eminem had sounded in ages. Also I've bitched about it before but I can't believe he didn't have the wherewithal to do a 3rd verse on Lock It Up. That's one of the best beats and hooks he's ever rapped on. And I know that Booger guy was supposed to be on it but it needed a 3rd verse from Eminem. Not him.
Dec 15, 2020 With the way the Rock sings on you’re welcome I’m surprised marshal hasn’t hit him up
Dec 15, 2020 Also most of Eminem's original material was stories....Slim Shady is literally just a f---ing character, 99% of the songs are embellished to the point of absurdism or made up because it's entertainment. It's not real. Stans are so f---ing loopy man lol
Dec 15, 2020 Have you heard RNP by Cordae and Anderson Paak? sonically similar to Lock It Up, produced by J Cole doing his best Dr. Dre impression.
Dec 15, 2020 d--- this is post of the year. So concise and really hits the nail on the head. Bravo, mate
Dec 15, 2020 You need to then explain to me how I'm wrong. I listen to radio, I watch TV, I don't hear any hip hop music, then again I live in the UK so maybe in America it's different. Whereas 15 years ago and 20 years ago radio was full of hip hop, the charts were full of hip hop songs and there were tons of artists. Maybe Eminem was a bit of a unique thing that happened and that's why he was big over here and maybe in America it's different but over here....? If I'm wrong tell me. I listen to Radio 1. I listen to Capital FM. I don't hear any rap songs and those are the radio stations that can influence and do play what's hot......or maybe rap songs are played after 10pm at night and hidden away from daytime listeners.
