I say mostly sleeping pills from 2002 to 2008. He said he used to be up for hrs during Eminem Show and 8 mile era, and that’s why he doesn’t like to do full tours as much anymore

Yeah but I think there's a false positive here.

Just because he happened to be taking some drugs, recreationally within that period... and made those albums... it seems to be people's inclination to say therefore = the drugs were those albums., I think that connection is extremely misguided.

He was also doing X Y Z and not X Y Z during those periods. Do you get what I'm saying? It's not like he was a drug addict and that was the only defining difference between 'then' and 'now.

He certainly wasn't a drug addict. Given the level of detail and focus all three of those albums display; he was doing drugs here and there and there's no doubt s--- like LSD, especially, can inspire some ideas, but he still had to have that in him at the time.

I don't think NOT doing drugs is any hindrance on his material. I think it's purely down to what he has to work with. We've seen his technical skill go up-and-up in recent times exactly because he is purely sober. We're seeing what Eminem's mind is truly capable of. It's just that his capability doesn't have the same life material to work with;

I put it that if Eminem was 100% sober in the prime years - the material might be even more amazing.

Bad guy is 3/4 pure unadulterated trash, and groundhogs day and don't front are decent, but not classic. And his voice in don't front is so strained, it's kinda annoying to me

If he would have tried to show of his technical skills in his classic albums, they would have lacked replay value and therefore, they wouldn't be considered as classics. But I'm not really sure it's because of the drugs that he lacked that stupid double time flows and s---.

I've always wondered why Nas and Hov never fell off as hard as Em.

For one eminem went from zero to over 9000 over night. He came out and put everything on the table and ran out of s--- to talk about. Jay z songs and nas songs aren’t the same topic as what eminem did. And eminem can’t act like he did in the slim shady era or even say the s--- he was saying now because it would look ridiculous. He hardly got away with it then. At his age he clearly wouldn’t.

Instead of songs about him and his life if eminem did like a concept album about Detroit and what it’s like living in Detroit he would be fine.

I mean in some ways Hov and Nas went 0 to 100 immediately and for quite some time they talked about the same things. Never really reinvented themselves like that besides Hov in this decade.

Mmlp sounds nothing like the eminem show. Relapse sounds nothing like either of them. And recovery sounds nothing like any of his other albums. Marshal has switched it up more than any other artist I can think of. And i think that’s why so many people hate on his new stuff. If you ask someone that was in high school that became a eminem fan when recovery came out I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t like his earlier stuff because it’s so different.
