    Lol. They s--- hard. TES wasn't even in top 10 in the best rap albums of 2002 according to Metacritic. They never ever rated an Em album 80 or80+.

    I honestly thought mmlp2 was good when it came out ... just listened to it while studying for block exams... it has to be his worst album hopefully he will bounce back now that he’s going in a new direction

    here’s why i think Revival has the potential to be Em’a best album since TES, if not his best album of all time

    by his own admission, for a long time, Em has been trying his damndest to make songs all his fans will love. which is admirable, to be sure. but in his case, it’s inconsistent. like he described in the Broken Record interview, it’s like he started off painting a canvas and then kept looking for how to fill in new parts of it with new and different concepts. and that’s cool, but it’s transparent. it feels like it’s being made and sold to us

    here, i think he’s moved beyond that. WoW was sort of saying “i’m never going to please everyone, and i’ve accepted that, so i’m going to focus on pleasing me, and i’m going to be happy with that.”

    WoW was a fantastic song that showed an unprecedented level of rawness and vulnerability. that’s not new ground for Em to be covering by any means, but the form is evolved. picasso was always great at portraiture, but it wasn’t until he eschewed that style for cubism that his soul became a lens through which his subjects were recontextualized in a new and groundbreaking way.

    tl;dr Em is presenting us with the purest essence of who he always wanted to be, and giving the finger to our wishes in favor of doing what he wants is going to produce a masterpiece
