Dec 10, 2024 he has to carry two Yayo’s now lol cool performance though. It would be great to see one by Dre, Snoop, Em and 50 soon.
Dec 10, 2024 Yeah 100%. After Revival I was just convinced like, 'wow, he just does not know how to make a cohesive album now, this is what we're getting from here on out - batch of random a--- songs, confused a--- artist trying to please every sub-fascet of his fan base', then thankfully... the s-----y reaction caused Kamikze, bc he just got angry and blurted out - a bunch of similar sounding s--- and didn't over-think it like he said... But as you say, it's not too high of a calibre, conceptually or stories or anything, so whilst it's uniform asf, it's not that long-lasting either. And yeah TDOSS is that, do you not feel he did that on Side A especially too though? I feel he took the cohesion lesson from Kami, but... then, there's a s--- load of concepts on that album, it's pretty packed top to bottom with some killer content, no pun intended. Also how you feel about post-GC2 / how TDOSS ends? I feel that's all that lets it down. It's not like, horrendous where it wrecks it but, just doesn't make too much sense, I feel he coulda ended the album way better. Especially given how much time/thought he had.
Dec 10, 2024 when i first heard revival it felt like another mixtape ala shadyxv and southpaw because taking out the filler only leaves about half a dozen actually-replayable songs. sonically it’s very similar to lp2 because of rubin but the lyrics took a major hit, which again was strange because of how incredible those post-southpaw features were. there were rumors he was working on an album in 2015-2016 and scrapped it in favor of revival. i’m guessing songs like believe and offended are what that original album sounded like. but i think people here and on reddit felt like all that inspirational stuff was kinda cheesy (not my opinion) and it looks like he wanted to do sumn he felt was a little more serious. unfortunately none of it really connected and rubin’s atrocious production didn’t help. when he dropped the chlora remix i breathed a huge sigh of relief like oh man he’s finally back. then kamikaze dropped. i’ll never forget that day. there were posts here and there about producers sending stems etc, then the venom teaser and the surprise drop. i was excited that he sounded like himself again but again there were only about half a dozen songs with any replay value. this is how i usually listen to revival and kami, together because that’s the only way it sounds like a cohesive set of tracks as for side a, i liked alfred’s theme, book of rhymes, the hidden verse on gnat, and discombobulated. the rest of the album is complete trash to me. side b was a slight improvement but the premonition concept was run into the ground by then, but i enjoyed his unaccommodating verses, godzilla, darkness, his yah yah verse, the framed-style intro to marsh, the third verse of never love again, little engine, and i will. in fact i will is the only a/b song i still listen to in rotation, that’s one of his best songs ever to me. but aside from what i just mentioned a+b as a whole is far and away his worst stuff. at least you can replace the joke section of encore with the bonus disc and sftl and make it goat. there’s no excuse for side a, or as i call it, 25 to life the album because of all the meaningless confusing love songs as if normal weren’t enough to k--- that concept as well. and then there’s the death of slim shady. this album is top 4. maybe top 3. it’s right on par with sslp to me. i honest to god did not believe he was capable of making an album like this again. every song is amazing. i don’t skip a single track. but after his head honcho verse the album does take kind of a strange turn back into 25 to life territory with bad one and toby, and again temporary and somebody save me felt like a cheap imitation of castle and arose. and i didn’t even like castle and arose as much as most people. and the bonus tracks are pretty obviously from side b sessions but i don’t mind because at least they sound as good as the best parts of side b. but bro. that fuel remix verse is sumn very special. you could cut that into the eminem show or recovery and literally nobody would even know the difference. it’s that f---ing good. i hope gunz n smoke is no different. but you’re right. tdoss is missing a truly great conclusion. but i think that’s probably only because he’s going to conclude the concept in another album next year. @M Solo says we should expect a relatively short turnaround time so i’m very hype to find out how he caps off this storyline
Dec 10, 2024 I remember when revival dropped and everyone at work the next morning were trashing it. Lmfao I was fighting for my life defending it as best I could. I was like “bro, you gotta listen to it with earphones. It an experimental alternative rap sound.” “Walk on water just needed Bass and drums and y’all woul praise it” “the Khelani and Pink song aren’t bad” “Castle and rose are top 10 Eminem songs. Y’all just don’t understand emotions” lol
Dec 10, 2024 Man i was shaking when I first pressed play on Revival i couldnt really even listen i was just way too excited,, then I ran it back for the second time and hated it. The Stan in me died that day and forever changed how I feel about his music, the end
Dec 10, 2024 yep. that’s how i felt right till renaissance. realest, lace it and doomsday started to show improvement but after listening to tdoss i was almost sad i doubted him. but 11 years without a decent album will do that
Dec 10, 2024 No it’s no, r--ist sympathiser. It’s a song he made 22 years ago and has no bearing or meaning of his Mum dying recently as it’s music and part of the shtick from the song. Do you even have one braincell?
