Dec 24, 2024 Completely agree with this. You could extend this creative process to most of his songs since Recovery. That's why Revival was such a mess, trying to cater to each fan; forcing songs from specific subgenres of his music. Even on DoSS (which I appreciate), the Shady persona felt less dark/spontaneous and more controversial for controversial's sake - the fat shaming, gen z, trans talk, midgets etc. It could've been executed a million times better. The vintage Slim Shady definitely pops up now and then, but overall it felt a bit like he sat down and thought "OK, what would Shady say about Gen Z and fat people in 2024?" Compare that to the fat shaming/misogyny on songs like As The World Turns. Or on STGAF "I don't rap for the women, f--- b------s, give me a fat slut that cooks and does dishes". Or ANYTHING from MMLP. It was a lot more authentic imo. These bars are more potent, clever and more captivating than anything he did on DoSS: My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge That'll stab you in the head, whether you're a f-- or lez Or a homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest Pants or dress, hate f--s?
