Jan 7, 2022 Well he definitely has four classic’s SSLP MMLP TES and Relapse. Relapse is my favorite. SSLP is very close. MMLP and TES aren’t far behind at all imo. He is so good that I can’t rank most of his albums, it’s too hard.
Jan 7, 2022 Give me 3-4 relationship songs and we'll be closer to the final product. Furthermore, I hope its 10 "like a" corny puns/dad jokes per song and not overall cause that's way too less for his standards. Also you're forgetting to incorporate the supersonic rap thingy he does. Top it off with a double metaphor song and we're good
Jan 7, 2022 If he's confident enough to say stuff like "I'm badder than cake mix but won't be whipped with no egg beaters", I think self-confidence isn't exactly the issue here
Jan 7, 2022 It isn't, no matter what anyone tells you. People don't know that by calling Relapse a classic they inadvertently undermine the value of SSLP, MMLP and TES by making them comparable to Relapse which, generally speaking isn't a contender to be a top-tier hip-hop album if you take all the greats into account.
Jan 7, 2022 He shouldn't be "defending" albums, it's not a good look for any artist to do that. You just look like a whiny little b----. It's like asking for feedback and getting angry if it isn't praise.
Jan 7, 2022 The only profile it upholds that could allow it a classic framing is its influence to artists like Tyler, the Creator. But it’s far from genre-shaping or flawless.
Jan 7, 2022 That's exactly what bothers me about his newer stuff. No questions asked, Side A and B are easily in the league of one of his finest projects but it doesn't change the fact that his writing has gotten too diluted. He's so focussed on coming up with these corny dad jokes that his finer stuff is being overlooked, an attribute being wrongly reinforced by various Youtube reactors. His whole verse on Fight Music is a good example of Em's writing abilities. Lines like "I make fight music for high school kids" on Who Knew sound so cool and iconic. I don't remember him coming up with bars this simple to grasp yet so layered in the recent years. His obsession with an ill-conceived notion of "bars" has drained his writing of sincerity. Walk on water is a fine example of that. I mean this: Why are expectations so high? Is it the bar I set? My arms, I stretch, but I can’t reach A far cry from it, or it's in my grasp, but as Soon as I grab, squeeze I lose my grip like the flying trapeze Into the dark I plummet, now the sky's blackening is lyrically genius, something very few writers can touch. But then he follows it up with "pressure increases like Khakis". I mean what?? Takes the sincerity of purpose from the song right away. And that's what makes him such a frustrating artist in my opinion. It's like he has lost diamonds in search of gold Apologies for the rant lmao
Jan 7, 2022 Yeah, the bars has been the most annoying part for me. He can't go one line without wordplay. It's too much.
Jan 7, 2022 In my eyes, he's been trying too had to be technical the past few albums. We know he can be, but that's not what made his earlier albums so great.
Jan 7, 2022 I feel like MMLP2 had the perfect balance of subtle wordplay that the project was riddled with but kept thematic still. The problem’s with that album weren’t the writing but the sounds, if he can channel similar creative energy writing wise to that & maintain his current sound improvements, he will reach a higher standard again.
