Jul 28, 2021 It’s his song selection. His song selection improved drastically since revival. Probably lost some yes men
Jul 28, 2021 Rly to me side A and B feel like kindred spirits—I like B better but it’s a similar type of music. I spose it just comes down to what songs you like and I felt like there were more trash songs on A
Jul 28, 2021 That's a liitle bit to harsh imo. 2014-2017 em was hot trash. No doubt about that. Will never forget the laughable trash songs like No Favors, Right For Me, Die Alone, Need Me, Untouchable, River, Offended, Shady XV, etc. Most of tthe songs of that "era" were nearly unlistenable with the worst Flow possible and tbh I lost all faith in EM.at that time. But he recovered quite well from that tbh. Recovery isn't a classic of course but it's also definetly not a bad album with great songs like No Love, Going Through Changes, Seduction, Talkin' 2 Myself, Space Bound or So bad. The only really bad songs are WTP, Won't Back Down, On Fire(good parts but sucks as a song) and You're never over(Hook is a overkill for me). LTWYL and Not Afraid are just too overplayed at this point, but there were not bad songs at all at the time. Yeah, today skips for me though. MMLP2 was a mixed bag for me. Still think the highs on this project are great. Last Verse of Bad Guy is still some of the best verses he's ever done. The concept of Legacy is genius etc. But Yeah, the problem with the Choppy flow kinda started with this album and he slowly began to sacrifice the musicality of his songs for technical show off skills with it's Peak of this bs on some tracks on Shady XV or Revival. Even a good song like "Fine Line" sounded kinda forced and unnatural to me at that time. Glad he recovered from that. The style of Side B is exactly what I want from him at this point. More or less straight hip hop beats not that bs River or Need Me production and a smooth flow most of the time. Topic wise I hope he moves on on his next project though
Jul 28, 2021 In terms of the production and hooks MTBMB, Especially Side B, is probably the best s--- Eminem has put out since TES. I'm sure i've said this before but the issue that I have, and what has been stopping me from enjoying anything Eminem has dropped since MMLP2 and maybe even before that is his vocals. He has struggled a lot with his flow in the past decade. Sometimes to the point that some of his verses sound like they were slapped over some random beat. That's how off he sounded at times. That issue for the most part has been resolved. but the problem that I still have is his vocals. I'm not sure if I would describe them as robotic, bored or just lack melody. But it's pretty apparent on anything he's done in recent years. Just listen to Gnat and you can see what I mean. That alone takes 80% of the enjoyment out of his music. Because even though I love the production and the hooks I just can't stand his rapping. I don't know wtf it is or what he used to do to his vocal in the production process but something has changed and it has nothing to do with him getting older. Because he's rapped "normal" on a few occasions. In Stepping Stones for example.
Jul 28, 2021 I like those 3, and Kami is also ok. He just had a terrible decade. I bump Recovery and BME front to back and I love it
Jul 28, 2021 Recovery, MMLP2, and even Revival all have a few good songs apiece but when you take a look at that period as a whole, it's cringe-inducing music and missteps at every stop the whole way thru. There's not enough good stuff to make up for the bad.
Jul 28, 2021 What's most frustrating is that Em can still rap "normal" he just choses not to. He choses not to layer his vocals or whatever he did in the studio that made him sound the way he did. And before someone says "He's older now, it's normal to evolve". You don't see Jay-Z or Nas sound like a completely different person from one album to the next. Their rapping style has remained relatively similar throughout their careers. I can listen to a Nas song from 2001 then listen to a 2021 song and easily tell it's the same person. But if you listen to a 2001 Eminem record then listen to a 2010 record and a 2021 record. You have 3 different people. 2 of which are probably from another planet.
Jul 28, 2021 If you look at the pic of Em with Dre and DOCs daughter last week and watch the new Behind the music clip with Em. They are not the same person. Conspiracy theories or not.
Jul 28, 2021 Like That’s credit to Em that he evolves and sounds different every album and decade. You make it sound like Em shouldn’t switch it up and je should just use same style he did 20 years ago which would be lame. Nas main problem is what you just described, sounds exactly the same from 25 years ago and it’s why I’ve fell out of love with his music.
Jul 28, 2021 Which one of you crazy stans are gonna listen to the rock the bells thing all day to hear Eminem and record it for us
