Jul 28, 2021 Court case is still happening. He probably can speak on it till it’s all settled. That’s my guess anyway.
Jul 28, 2021 Royce was on again talking about how he’s bridging the gap & new artists. Mentioned the ones from before. Ro Spit talking about respecting Detroit. Mentioned Em J Dilla Trick trick Deaun & others. Said Royce is the best rapper in the world.
Jul 28, 2021 Tbf I don't even listen to Nas so that probably wasn't the best example. But take Jay Z or pretty much any other rapper who's been around for a while. You can evolve musically without completely changing who you are and the way you rap. Just listen to Dre on Compton from 2015 and listen to him on The Chronic 1992. The music has evolved greatly. But Dre still sounds like Dre. Evolving doesn't mean you have to get rid of your identity and reinvent the way you rap.
Jul 28, 2021 I have to disagree here, imo the main complaint about Compton was that Dre did not sound at all like Dre, and the beats were not "Dre beats", for the majority of the album. I think comparing Chronic and Chronic 2001 is a better example, Dre is rapping differently, but it still sounds like Dre, and the production is different, but it still has That Dr Dre sound.
Jul 28, 2021 The difference in Dre's vocals and rapping style is not as jarring as it is with Eminem on some of his albums. Keep in mind those 2 albums were released nearly 30 years apart. But I think you get the point. That was just one example amongst hundreds I could have used. Take an older Jay-Z album like the Blueprint and compare it to his last album. His vocals and rapping is very similar even though the music is not the same. Now do the same with Eminem and you basically have 2 different people rapping.
Jul 28, 2021 Yes, I get your point. I think Em's vocals were "good" (the slurred style post Encore excluded as it was mostly due to the drugs) up until Relapse, then once he started yelling all over the place during and after Recovery, things took a bad turn. For example, compare how Em sounds in the Relapse release party versus his performance at the Oscars (which isn't even among his worst):
Jul 28, 2021 I'm talking about the vocals he uses when he records his songs. His voice can be tweeked. Not talking about his live performances. He also uses backtracking live which is evident in the first video.
Jul 28, 2021 Compton as an album s----d a---. He wanted to put out music to compliment the movie, but there is probably like 200 Dre tracks in a vault way better than that s---. Some features were dope but Dre def didn't sound like dre.
Jul 29, 2021 Btw for anyone who's interested the grip album seems to be basically done since peeps seem to already be listening to it so I'm wondering when it's gonna release and what kind of promo it's gonna have
Jul 29, 2021 I'll say about Eminem vocals in general post recovery. Very obviously they are not comparable to 2000 Eminem but on songs like Rap God, Monster etc he sounded smooth and slick as f---. So ofc, with the proper processing he can still sound smooth. And of course, the kinds of flows he chooses also impact the smoothness of his raps. But I'm not complaining. Post revival, em has been doing nothing but improving.
Jul 29, 2021 Yup, keep that in mind when y'all are going to play the new album. It won't sound like 2001.
Jul 29, 2021 I know you are, but it's the same problem imo, even though he can indeed "fix it" in the studio.
