May 15, 2022 It’s literally top one worst take in this thread. And that’s an impressive feat considering Marsh makes up 50% of the posts of a 3000+ page thread lol.
May 15, 2022 If Eminem just left off the goofy s--- off Revival it would’ve been received a lil better but people still would’ve trashed the music…. Kendrick didn’t bring no goofy s--- but the music wasn’t the greatest either… Kendrick is still one of the best lyricists alive today but when is it gonna be okay for most people to say it wasn’t a good album? People make fun of Stan’s for defending eminems music but y’all out here tryna type college essays to defend Kendrick’s album. If people didn’t like it then they didn’t like it. He isn’t retiring anytime soon, I’m sure he’ll return again with something better.
May 15, 2022 I honestly wonder online if people genuinely enjoy certain records or if they just wanna fit in with the popular opinion. I feel like when an artist of kendricks caliber puts out an album the instant reaction is to call it amazing because that's what casuals think the hip hop heads will be saying. Social media culture has created a society full of followers and people who don't think for themselves. I'm a big kendrick fan but this album does nothing for me really, it's boring as h---.
May 15, 2022 True, I agree. Would love to see how many of the people in this thread defending Kendrick's new album will actually go back and listen to it regularly.
May 15, 2022 Could’ve gotten Discombobulated Remix ft Pusha T and Kendrick but instead we got killer ft f---ing Jack Harlow and cordae
May 15, 2022 I've been doing what I normally do, give it a couple listens then check what reactors are thinking (planning on listening to it more with some members here). But I think there's something to be said about albums that are good but you don't replay them all the time, like on the topic of Kendrick I think TPAB is an incredibly made album but I'm not returning to it constantly, I think of it like a movie where you could think it's really good but sometimes the mood of it or the subject matter makes it hard to come back. Interesting discussions and POV's here though, funny the conversation bled into this thread as well.
May 15, 2022 I'm glad that Em likes Mr. Morale and hope he will take something from it, for example, it'd be dope if the album made him create concept songs or even an album. Mr. Morale is a great album (especially the disc 1) and don't get anybody who can't appreciate it.
May 15, 2022 Oh my gawd, my expectation for his next one got lowered with this tweet. But yeah maybe he likes that 'We Cry Together' song so much then I get it. Cause its raw Hip Hop and influenced by his Kim song. I would say its maybe the best song on there. I mean most of this album is singing and like podcast. Em is a rap nerd. I remember he liked TPAB so much that he commented on it but I get it here cause it was pure art at its finest with singing and rap. Its Kendrick's best work for sure.
May 15, 2022 Its about Em's album. Ppl think its about Crook's album but its about Em's. I think its not done yet.
May 15, 2022 While you're right, I'd personally pick Walk on Water and Castle over everything on Mr Morale. Even in moments where Kendrick's lyricism peaked on this album, it didn't feel as authentic as it did with TPAB. Also Em praising Mr Morale is fine but I hope he just doesn't get inspired from it lmao. Last time he got inspired from something, (4:44 in this case) he created Revival.
May 15, 2022 I love those two songs but I think the production quality on Mr. Morale puts it ahead of Castle. It’s subjective though. Auntie Diaries hits kinda home because I have LGBT family members and as someone from a Christian family I can relate to Kendrick’s POV in that song pretty hard, so it kinda connects with me more on a personal level than Castle. WoW and a lot of the songs on Mr. Morale suffer from when you’re at a certain point in your career you kinda lose your relatability with the audience. Which is natural and fine but you can definitely feel it. That’s why tracks like Darkness and Auntie Diaries are really good because it’s not as much focused on a personal struggle it’s about things that we all have to deal with opposed to talking about the problems that come with money and fame. Also, I don’t think that if Eminem is inspired by Mr. Morale it’s gonna lead to something like Revival. Revivals problem wasn’t that it was inspired by 4:44 it was him being rusty, poor production choices, and no one in his camp telling him this s--- sounds bad. I’d personally rather hear an artist try to do something different and fail than get something by the books and mediocre. Mr. Morale isn’t perfect but it is consistently experimental and sonically different every track, and if Eminem is inspired by Mr. Morale I feel like the takeaway would be that he should experiment and try doing stuff different. It seems like he’s taking his time on this album so I’m excited to see what comes out of it.
May 16, 2022 But tba as bad as this album is We cry together is dope. I relisten to that song right now. Also has some funny lines in there. Beat really has some 90's New York State of my Mind (Illmatic) vibes. N95 is ok too but nuthin special.
May 16, 2022 I agree. I guess Mr Morale as a record just isn't it for me. As for getting inspired, the problem with that really is how Em approaches it. He's at his best when he comes from a place of authenticity. You can see how the nuance in his writings slips away when he's just writing about a concept to write about it. That's also a couple of things that were wrong with Revival. I hope his take-away from Kendrick's album if anything is that experimentation, good writing and genuine introspection matters much more in the grand scheme of things than technical ability when making a good album.
May 16, 2022 After 13 years Insane slaps like on day 1! Best song on Relapse (Regular album) Beautiful also has its place but its more King Mathers for me.
