Jul 23, 2022 Whether or not she intended it as a slur is up in the air, though there are a number of reasons to doubt this. For one thing, it's not uncommon for a white person to insult another white person's intelligence using names like "ape" or "monkey". For another, calling a black person a racial slur is career suicide. Ironically though, it's people like you who explicitly made the connection between "ape" and "black woman" here, just because you've decided that certain insults, as a rule, are off limits against people of a particular race. But most white people don't care that much about race and tend see people of all races as just individuals. One of the dangers of taking that charade too seriously in this day and age is accidentally using the wrong word to insult someone of the wrong race. That was probably Roseanne's error.

I don't get how it's a bad thing that I have the wherewithal to not be a f---ing idiot and realizing that certain insults can be used in certain contexts but very obviously not in others. 2. Saying white people don't care about race is wrong due to social conditioning, whether it's someone who's been raised to be aware of different races and their societal hardships or someone being raised to hate another race you'll be destined to at least think about race considering the world's long rooted and documented history with it that's nowhere near done yet.
