Jan 28, 2023 Cole, maybe ASAP but I need to listen to his other projects, just got into Jpegmafia and he said he's dropping 3 projects this year which is continuing the tradition of me getting into people's music at the exact right time lol. There's probably more I'm missing, I'll need to think. New Isaiah Rashad would be cool but idk if he is gonna drop and he also has an album worth of leaked songs that I downloaded and haven't listened through all the way yet, and it's not rap but Bring Me The Horizon should also be dropping which should be good.
Jan 28, 2023 The hip hop twitter echo chamber shouting how good that Lil yachty album is because the bar has been set so low and they are delighted they got some beats they weren’t expecting but I miss the days when hip hop sounded like this
Jan 28, 2023 Those are some good picks. I’ve heard some JPEGMAFIA here and there, but I’ve never really dove into his music like that yet. I still want to check out his Offline! EP from 2022. I also heard about his collab tape with Danny Brown coming, and I’m sure that will be experimental awesomeness I need to check out. It’s funny that you have a tradition of getting into people’s music at the exact right time. That’s actually a pretty cool thing when you think about it. I sort of feel that way about Gracie Abrams… I wasn’t into her music until not that long ago and then this month she announces an album. It’s that universal divine timing man. Isaiah Rashad is dope and smooth, but I only listened to his last album once because I was distracted by so much other music and things back then. I need to give it another spin. I also love his Wats Wrong song with Kendrick Bring Me The Horizon is one of the types of music I am least knowledgeable on lol. I do have some stuff of theirs saved in my library that I need to listen to though.
Jan 28, 2023 I loved the album before the Twitter echo chamber. I barely even pay attention to that s--- anymore. In fact I’ve seen people loving it and hating it equally. I don’t see the point in comparing it to hip hop… sure Lil Yachty is a hip hop artist, but that was not a hip hop album in the slightest. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s the greatest album ever, but I enjoyed it quite a lot.
Jan 28, 2023 Ripper roo sounds like a good guy. Everyone in here telling their own story starting random s--- with each other and he here playing peacemaker/trying to get the conversation going. You will never squash the marsh/supsuck beef though. That s--- deeper than pac and biggie/jay and nas. It’s toxic and I just hope they keep that s--- on wax
Jan 28, 2023 His offline! EP is actually uncleared samples from his album so there's playlists on Spotify of the completed intended album with those songs if you're interested. Good to hear you're feeling the same way with Gracie Abrams, always a good feeling to even have little s--- like that line up. Bring me the Horizon is great but it's a little hard to get into their earlier work if you aren't already into metalcore, Sempiternal and That's the Spirit are good albums but their last EP is their best project which is cool for artists to still be dropping great projects many years earlier. Another band in a similar vein I want to hear drop again this year is Spiritbox, great female vocalist who can switch between clean vocals and screams in-between words it's wild lol.
Jan 28, 2023 Thank you! I think I’m a pretty nice, chill person at heart. I like conversing with people here about topics we’re both passionate about and making them laugh when I can. I’m usually only ever rude or beefing when people are rude to me first
Jan 28, 2023 Hip hop Twitter is actual cancer but the Yachty album is even getting on the good side of music snobs which I find to be pretty wild.
Jan 28, 2023 Oh yeahhhh I remember hearing about that now Thank you for the recommendations! It is pretty cool when artists and bands drop great stuff late into their careers because a lot of people try to box musicians in and act like they can only drop good music when they’re young. That’s pretty awesome that the Spiritbox female vocalist can switch between clean vocals and screams, I’ll have to check that out. I can’t even imagine doing that type of s---. I just have basic b---- knowledge about rock music. I started off heavy into hip hop and then transitioned into listening to R&B and pop. Rock was a genre I never went hardcore into because my grandparents played 80s rock so much and my millennial kin played 2000s rock so much as I was growing up so I got tired of hearing it. Now I just don’t usually check out rock because for some reason I usually don’t gravitate towards it. I’m trying to get into it more though because I’m friends with a guy who finally released some songs with his local rock band who makes pretty good music.
Jan 28, 2023 I’ll be honest, I’ve never even heard a song from him until this album came out but I gave it a go and it was different from what I expected but it didn’t grab my attention so I was surprised to see the reviews it was getting. I still think that’s because peoples expectations were so low anyway but I’ll give it another spin to see if there’s something I’m missing
Jan 28, 2023 You're definitely right on expectations playing into it, like hearing that Yachty is making a psych rock album is spelled for disaster so as soon as it's pretty good it's wild. I will say off personal experience the first track has been stuck in my head for a while, the production is great and I can always go for some killer slower rock instrumentation.
Jan 28, 2023 I don’t take Twitter seriously. 90% of the s--- on there is engagement bait and it’s gotten worse since Musk took over. It’s probably the actual worst place to find the accurate reception of an album
Jan 28, 2023 I also grew up on 70s to 2000s rock and pop punk with some earlier stuff sprinkled in off of my family and guitar hero setlists, I also bounced off of it a bit but I always come back to it like comfort food lol. There's nothing to me that could beat some great guitar riffs and live instruments being used to record s--- like that. These lives are great if you wanna hear Spiritbox:
