Mar 8, 2023 Being attractive is a big part of it. A lot of pop stars and country singers wouldn’t have their music be given the time of day if they weren’t attractive. The only popular genre you can really be successful in and be ugly is hip hop. Of course there’s exceptions to this but more often than not this is the case

Pop is probably the only genre where looks actually matter. And that applies mostly to modern pop music. Because most people didn't give af what MJ or Prince looked like.
Mar 8, 2023 Aside from a few bands, most people aren’t checking for new rock music. It’s only the 3rd popular genre based on the virtue that most people only listen to rap and pop or older rock. To say looks don’t matter in rock doesn’t make much sense. Looks have been a huge part of rock bands as well, with hair metal being a great example. If they were ugly their music wouldn’t have been as popular. The point is it doesn’t matter what genre it is, being attractive helps. There are many superficial people who will listen to someone’s music simply because they’re attractive. Morgan Wallen is looked at as a country heartthrob by people, which helps the popularity of his music a lot. If he was some ugly fat slob the masses would not be sold on the image of his music You can look at the most popular musicians in the world from pop, rock, rap, etc. Most of them aren’t ugly or at least weren’t ugly when they got popular. When they are ugly, they have to lean into that ugliness in order for it to work (Marilyn Manson)

Linkin Park. Has anyone ever gave a f--- what the singer of Linkin Park looked like lol? What about Slipknot? h--- most people don't even know what those guys look like under their mask. If by looks you didn't just mean being physically attractive then I would agree that the overall image is important for artists and their brand. Like Kiss, Slipknot and many others. But here you talk about being ugly. There are plenty of artists that are ugly as s---, in popular genres. And nobody cares. Btw you keep saying popular genres but you haven't mentionned one of them besides pop.
