This is a perception by those who think they're above Em and in the know but those REALLY in the know - know that he's as technical as it comes, and creatively technical in ways others are not. In terms of putting sounds of words together, rhymes... no, he's not just 'mainstream technical'.

Kendrick, Tyler, and Kanye have all released albums since Revival and the Revival influence permeates through those albums. I guarantee Kendrick Lamar was listening to Revival a lot during the making of Mr. Morale. Revival created a whole brand new subgenre. Eminem’s influence is unparalleled.
