Jul 28, 2023 To an extent technical ability can be suppressed if the content is more valuable & could be hindered by focusing on rhyming for the sake of rhyming but it’s all about balance. You know Kendrick is one of my favourites so of course I don’t think rhyming whole bars & saying nothing is the pinnacle of this genre, but it’s a staple to be able to rap more than 1 syllable lmao Rap is a technical genre & a showcase of ability, that’s what sets it apart from merely writing a story. Multi-syllable rhyming is the bare minimum bar to pass when you’re not actually singing. It’s more akin to jazz as a genre than any other & people who don’t possess these skills along with the lack of providing original content shouldn’t be anywhere near a mic because they have nothing new to bring to the table. We need to stop accepting mediocrity just for the sake of it & that’s what that is, at least listen to the clip lol
