The problem is people shun being cringe when instead they should be embracing it. Everybody is cringe, some are just better at hiding it. The funniest thing is when people look back on the past and think they were cringe then, not realizing that they are still cringe now.

I think there's good cringe and bad cringe. No?

Yeah, I guess so. I just can’t take it seriously when people act like they’re immune to being cringe. I think that would fit into the bad cringe category

So in other words, people who think their s--- don't stink. Sure, no one likes that.

But what if someone thinks they're only immune to being bad cringe? Does that still fall in the bad cringe category? And if so, are people who acknowledge they can be bad cringe less bad cringe just by virtue of this self-awareness?

(This conversation is starting to get really cringe. Can't tell if it's the good or bad kind yet.)

The way I see it is that anyone who thinks they’re completely immune to being bad cringe lacks self-awareness and is likely egotistical to some degree. That would automatically go into the bad cringe category. Being bad cringe at some point in your life is almost inevitable so thinking you’re immune to that is ridiculous.

If people acknowledge they have the potential to be bad cringe, I probably wouldn’t see them as bad cringe at all unless they perform some other bad cringe action like making fart jokes as an adult. I’m someone who really values at least some level of self-awareness in a person because I grew up around people and still am around people who barely have any self-awareness whatsoever. They walk around like zombies, and I sometimes wonder if they have any thoughts in their heads at all.

Obviously, this whole thing is subjective. Quite frankly I think this conversation itself is becoming bad cringe due to how many times I’ve had to say cringe… it kinda makes me wanna bash my head against a wall. But it’s an interesting thought experiment nonetheless. It all boils down to what people find cringe, good cringe, and bad cringe. In all honesty, I myself don’t have a complex system built out yet defining all the things that are bad cringe or not bad cringe. I just sort of know them I when I see them.

I think so too, which is why my question was loaded with the assumption.

I also agree that the good–bad cringe distinction boils down to a question of taste. Most people in this thread for example can't seem to agree on which Eminem songs are good or bad cringe, which I find frustrating at times because some (authoritarian?) part of me thinks there ought to be an objective measure of these things, and is somewhat depressed at the probability that there isn't.

It can be depressing, but I stopped caring about opinions once I realized most people actually have no idea what the h--- they really want. I’ve had people in my life who would want me to do one thing, then once I did that they’d say it was wrong and that I should’ve done the exact opposite. I could never win with these people because no matter what I did it was wrong even though they said it would be right.

I see that same sort of mentality in a lot of music discourse especially on this forum. Once I saw that opinions are so fickle I realized that a lot of these Eminem discussions are a waste of time. Eminem could make the exact song one of these Stans wants and when it comes out they would s--- on it. Then Eminem could make the complete opposite type of song and they would love it. Eminem does need guidance on making good songs again, but definitely not from most of the r-----s on this forum.

I’ve never understood the “it could’ve just been a tweet” criticism I’ve been seeing about certain songs for a few years now. You could literally say that about almost any song.

doesn't need to sound exactly the same, RA The Rugged Man, and Marlon Craft are examples of other people who have put out political or concept songs while still sounding good.
