Sep 22, 2021 Overall sound I agree(voice/flow) but his writing is on a whole other level now. Darkness and The Ringer are better written songs than 99% of most of his earlier catalogue.
Sep 22, 2021 Well, obviously. But that's the same for every artist on earth. Studies have shown that people reach the peak of their creativity between the ages from 25 to 40. On top of that, rap music comes from the street. It was originally conceived as a way to protest and give a voice to people that didn't have one. Eminem has already told us everything he could possible tell. Every story, every personal side of his life. He's not in the streets anymore. He can't create new stories to tell. That's why a lot of artists start talking about how much money they have, how many cars they have, the b------s, etc... because they run out of actual interesting stories to tell about themselves. So, of course every rapper in the world will be better when they are 30 than when they are 50: 1)Creativity lowers. 2)The stories to tell have already been told. 3)The hunger diminishes. 4)The impact they can cause on the genre (or even the world) has already been printed. Eminem can't shock the world again. It doesn't matter if he starts throwing around the world 'fa----' or if he starts to create shock-value music. He's already impacted the world the biggest way he possibly ever could. Nothing he can do or say now will shock anybody. They will try to cancel him, sure, but nothing could be truly impactful.
Sep 22, 2021 Them 2 are definitely top tier cuts for sure but this is what I mean: We always have the sparks of brilliance littered throughout the projects like the songs you’ve just stated but there’s always problems throughout in other places, that’s why I say that Em can’t be trusted. It’s not impossible that it works out perfect, it’s just unlikely.
Sep 22, 2021 That’s a different argument to the one I’m expressing although I agree with it in the right context. I’m talking about his artistic ability which is controlled by how he wants to be as a rapper. Em before the Bass Brothers was rooted in a rappity rap style until he met musicians who could steer his talent into the right direction when making music. He’s regressed back into that emcee punchline/syllables mode and the music suffers from it. It’s clear as day. That’s why he doesn’t work with artists & musicians in the studio, why he raps over beat tapes with hooks already laid on them. This is what causes him to veer off course in the writing and have the music littered with filler bars. He’s never really had the taste himself just the talent, the musicians around him have always filled that gap at the start of his career and guided him - that’s what has been missing for awhile now.
Sep 22, 2021 Start rapping? He already had a outstanding rap career. His few features a year is enough. If he’s not inspired anymore to make a full length album that’s okay. I rather a few 10/10 verses a year than him put out a trash album and not even want to rap at all anymore
Sep 22, 2021 I agree. s-----y it was labeled a deluxe so some people didn’t go to it like they would a album
Sep 22, 2021 I can see where you're coming from but theres a few things wrong. The Bass brothers, while they are musicians, have said many times that Eminem directed them musically because they didn't know hip hop. Eminem has always known what he wanted the beats to sound like so he would hum the melodies to them and tell them if he wanted it higher or lower in terms of key. But they did come up with alot of basslines in their own right, Dre was still pivitol in terms of drums and overall spacing. As far as he doesnt work with real musicians that's not true. Luis Resto is an actual musician and an Incredible one at that. Piano, guitar, bass, drums, there almost isnt an instrument he cant play. He has a very cool ted talk you should check out. But, Luis is always credited in songs produced by eminem bc eminem will now days program the drums and handle samples but luis will handle the instrumentation, Mike Strange also plays guitar and bass if needed. People seem to be unaware that every beat Eminem gets and uses, once he gets the stems, luis will play overdubs of certain things, and at times end up rewriting things and get a credit bc of his contributions. That's all been discussed in mike strange sound on sound interview, but theres also producers over the years talk about how the beat sounds different in eminems final version. He changes things, and reproduces the original idea alot. Just recently actually it was I believe DA did an interview and they asked what eminem changed in a beat and he declined to answer (I guess bc he's aware how eminem doesnt like too many studio details talked about) Fredwreck said in his Dave pensado interview that Em's studio is like fight club and you dont talk about fight club. I think people are very assuming on what current Em's process and workflow is. And it creates an over simplified idea of his approach.
Sep 22, 2021 If anyone needs their day brightened up a bit after no mmlp3 here's an account dedicated to old 50 cent tweets for a good laugh https://mobile.twitter.com/50centoldtweets?lang=en
Sep 22, 2021 Two new shady films tweets. One with a newspaper and magnifying glass emoji and one tweet talking about the new worker (“#01” interestingly enough) and how they started at “10” today and start again at “8” tomorrow.
Sep 22, 2021 Hmm. Interesting. For some reason I'm more hyped about this release than recent ones... you?
Sep 22, 2021 Yeah the energy around this one is more hype than it was for Side B tbh, maybe because it’s a standalone album and not a deluxe this time
