Mar 9, 2024 I've always wanted to listen to scarface and never got around to, thanks for the recommendation
Mar 9, 2024 Yeah although we’ve had some insane years since (2012-2015 & 2018 immediately come to mind) so it’s not a linear trend as such, more an overarching process of commodification that’s resulted in lower-effort output — torrent downloads & later on the rise of streaming services played a major part to that, now as you said social media has a foothold in the production process. You’ll always have outliers that are in it for the love of the art though no matter how degenerate the charts get, & we’re now able to access large swathes of artists that wouldn’t otherwise have been possible before this era, so I’m content personally. But I do miss when radio would bring people together like it did, at least we still have concerts.
Mar 9, 2024 I've seen it happen countless times really, even today, but tbh I've never seen rap being as s--- as it is now (mainstream rap that is) Here's a list of rappers I've seen accused of destroying rap ever since I started listening to it: Eminem 50 cent Lil Wayne Kanye West (Around the 808 and heartbreak's time, people s--- on it when it first came out) T.I. Lil Jon T-Pain Soulja Boy Wiz Khalifa Drake Nicki Minaj HERE'S when I started agreeing: Any youtuber turned rapper Rap ALBUMS made solely to go viral and used as tik tok/instagram/meme sounds
Mar 9, 2024 I won't lie and say his voice didn't take me some getting used to back then, once I was passed that, I started enjoying a lot of his s--- (especially mixtapes)
Mar 9, 2024 Also I Remember when Auto tune started to get so obnoxious back when Wayne was blowing up. Like 2008-2011 he had that on literally everything.
Mar 9, 2024 For me he oversaturated the market back when he was on fire, just way too much released at once. Felt like he was dropping a mixtape a week back during his hay day
Mar 9, 2024 Em and Wayne have the same "problem" in the sense that their copycats don't even know why they like them, so they just copy the basic corny bs Em: say some out of pocket s--- and rap fast Wayne: tattoo my f---ing face and mumble autotuned drug related s---
Mar 9, 2024 Only relevant rappers dropping this year other than maybe Em and Wayne Cole also, but he can be boring as h---
Mar 9, 2024 I just think he’s been washed for so long and his music hasn’t been anything special. Same situation as Usher for example.
Mar 9, 2024 Currently? Yeah. Mixtape Wayne back in the day would have stomped cole. And I’m a big cole fan
Mar 9, 2024 He’s boring as f--- but has some good songs and verses. A whole Cole album is a pass for me, I had enough
Mar 9, 2024 He has always been so chill. Like imagine having a beer with Marshall, bet he has some crazy stories and dad puns
