Mar 23, 2024 Bro got bodied by every feature, can't believe he made an album where I can unironically say YB better. The Jelly Roll song didn't sound very good but I liked the sentiment and it sounded like a story he actually had an emotional stake in instead of having a story telling song for the sake of it like half of the others on the album.
Mar 23, 2024 I've lost interest years ago, once the "mumble rap" bad fad faded, he was done not only that but a bunch of the "please relate to this" songs are so.. idk, something feels off, like he's obviously pandering instead of speaking about s--- because it really affects him, whether that's true or not idk, but it just felt that way
Mar 23, 2024 Him dissing “mumble rap” then going on to collab with Lil Baby and Young Thug, two people who commonly get thrown into the mumble rap category, was a hilarious turn of events. I imagine his core fanbase didn’t like that very much. True. It feels like he doesn’t have any personality. He has some skill, but if you have no personality that skill is basically worthless. There’s not much relatability or connection when it comes to him. He sometimes just feels like a puppet to get these messages across. Like you said, it seems like he is pandering with these messages rather than actually believing them.
Mar 23, 2024 It wasn't even how he sounded, it was obviously unfinished and put on a beat that didn't fit the verse in the slightest. Genuinely disrespectful to release that imo.
Mar 23, 2024 I completely agree that his personality may be the main problem (aside from him getting lazy as s--- after he was noticed by Em and others), there's no oomph or emotion to his s---, it's not that he sounds robotic even, he just sounds bland
Mar 23, 2024 An important part of rap is people being able to buy into the lyrics and vibe. Personality helps with that a lot. It doesn’t even matter if what you’re rapping about is real or fiction in this case, if you can get people to truly buy into your lyrics/vibe with your personality and suspend their disbelief you’ve won. Sometimes it works so well you forget that it’s just a guy rapping. I just can’t buy most of Joyner’s lyrics. I don’t get immersed in the music, instead I’m in my head thinking, “Oh, this is a guy rapping.”
Mar 23, 2024 Imagine getting immersed in rap. How do you guys get past the horrible blaccent and black slang? Makes me go through the roof every time I hear it (shout out to my boy Dylann Roof).
Mar 23, 2024 Plus if he puts a lot of tracks on the album we get at least 25 more years of discourse about how good it could’ve been if he removed the filler & added the bonus tracks.
Mar 23, 2024 Joyner is just like Hopsin — dumb af guys who can rap well. No wonder they’re uninteresting creatively.
Mar 23, 2024 lol Em looks normal 20 years ago…but was high and now he looks high with what he’s wearing but is not lol ..if only they could come out with a few more tracks together…1 can hope
