May 29, 2021 I think Proof, and Dre (and maybe even 50) to a certain extent, used to that. But it seems that no one does that anymore, it's quite apparent when you look at Em's discography post-sobriety.
May 29, 2021 People over thinking the verse to oblivion. It was fun. Just enjoy it. Em clearly enjoys doing the fast stuff and he's not experimenting with different ways to do it. This isn't even an album track, it's a random remix. All three verses were great.
May 29, 2021 He loves experimenting at this point. He also gets competitive, and as someone said this is one straightforward way to stand out on a track with others. I liked it. It wasn't Speedom which is honestly so hard to make out without Genius lyrics open in front of you. And I usually pick up lyrics pretty fast. Songs like Calm Down grew on me. At first I wasn't a fan. More of the same fast rapping right. Even his recent Big Sean appearance is a bit more of the same. I think as long as it is comprehensible, not unpleasant to listen to and doesn't force me to have the lyrics open every time I am good. No, it wasn't amazing. Probably should have gone in at his normal voice, there was honestly no point to do this here. Something to keep in mind too, beyond this song and its theme. Eminem ran out of topics Relapse/Recovery time period. Once in a while he digs something Additional from his past to share. Whether its more info about his overdose or a puppy that got killed but I think overall the man has shared it all, more or less with us. So that leaves politics, whatever else might be happening around him or in society, even beefs although its all honestly not the same Ja Rule/Benzino days. He is older, that dedication to this sort of thing isn't there. Anyways, I am just trying to say that what does an artist do when he has pretty much done it all. He even says it himself on a song. He experiments, he plays around with things. That's his thing. It's like ok I don't have a whole CD full of interesting things to say but I can give you some crazy flows. I keep my expectations realistic these days. The Revival criticism pushed Eminem to be at his best at this point in time and I welcome it. Nothing will ever, EVER beat the 1999-2003 time period, and for those who have been there for it like me, it was an amazing time.
May 29, 2021 Using the same fast flow over and over is far from experimenting. Quality control has been needed for a long time.
May 29, 2021 I don't think he has run it into the ground just yet. Tech N9ne does it enough as well, yet there is never a CD full of this style alone. And neither is there with Em.
May 29, 2021 If Em could just chill for a change and do a track with some fellow rappers without feeling the need to compete, that would be experimenting.
May 29, 2021 But that's his thing though.... Tech N9ne has always rapped this way since day 1. This style doesn't fit Eminem at all imo.
May 29, 2021 But he can't LOL I've been listening to the guys for close to 20 years. He hasn't changed. That is not who he is. He calls himself competitive all the time. He is a dude with something to prove even close to 50. Devil's Night had a few songs just serviceable. And I think that's because he felt differently about his own group and need to compete. I always criticize the man when it's due. I never loved every single thing he ever dropped, never been into blind worship. But again, this is who EM is. I come to expect slaughter on a track that features rappers he isn't buddy buddy with. He doesn't always need to do this, remember the days of Renegade? But the point is, the dude is competitive. That's just who he will always be.
May 29, 2021 I don't agree with that at all. Sure Tech has had this style from the beginning, but he raps in a normal voice too. This is coming from a pretty big Tech N9ne fan here who listened to all his albums. It is a style. Why can't Eminem experiment with it? You know what style didn't fit Eminem let's go back to You Don't Know and that whack flow geez or some of that Recovery yelling, pausing between bars. Those were beyond whack.
May 29, 2021 Yes he can, it just depends with who he's doing a song with. I just wish he would chill and make actual music again. Like something that's actually enjoyable to listen to. And not just him spitting lyrical myrical and rappity rap s--- as fast as he can. But I understand some people here must not understand what i'm talking about since you like this stuff.
May 29, 2021 What's wrong with You Don't Know? I also liked Recovery despite the mixed opinions. Some people like it, others hate it. But one thing is for sure, he knew how to flow on Recovery. His s--- wasn't all over the place like it is on some of his recent projects. Just listen to his verse on No Love. That's how you do it. Not this robotic times 5 speed he uses. Yes Tech N9ne raps in a normal voice to. But his speed rap has always been a big part of who he is since 1999. And he incorporates it in a ton of songs. That's not who Eminem is at all I I think it sounds like absolute trash.
May 29, 2021 I can see your side, I can use empathy and you know see your side lol Not a narcissist here or so blindly in love with my opinion here lol And you would be wrong to think I love this style. I like it just fine, I can do without it. And sure Eminem doesn't have to slaughter the microphone when the song features pop stars, singers. Other rappers is a different story. Especially his non camp. To expect Eminem to make music like he did in the old days is unrealistic. I just think it's done with. And he is done with that as well. He has a different direction, you can see it. It's more technically impressive than actually enjoyable music of the old days.
