May 29, 2021 Dude, you lost me. That flow was whack. Those drugged out days were not something I enjoyed immensely. His lyrics were not there, the flow was whack, it's like you said it some people like it or hate it. I did not like it. And Recovery is not an album I ever ever liked. His lyrics are pathetic on there. Beyond the few songs I like. Half-Assed Bar PAUSE let them soak it in, then another half assed bar, that's literally Recovery broken down. No, I never ever want to see that again. The lyrics were not there, that delivery is not cool. Another thing is too, we won't all agree, I've seen people asking for those days, I've seen people on here defend Recovery to the end. I am an Em fan but again, the peak for me was the first three albums, then I had to be more criticial and figure it out because suddenly when I got my copy of Encore in 2004 still expecting the same level of quality the singles aside... yea that album made me re-evaluate everything and that was just the beginning. Relapse to me was better than Recovery. I did not love all the beats, hated the accents which only worked on a few songs, something Em overused if you want to use the word overused in reference to this fast rapping, but the Lyricism was insane. He went in on that album. That alone made it special. His pen was sharp. Recovery had lazy writing, Wink Wink Delivery. OH LET'S PAUSE THE CD WHILE I SEE IF THEY GOT MY SO-SO BAR WHICH I THINK IS DOWNRIGHT AMAZING. Call it the pause-flow.
May 29, 2021 Part of listening to hiphop is liking what you hear sonically. I personally just can't listen to this. Technically impressive? Sure. But i'll take storytelling on a nice production over technical rapping about nothing and just going off the rails with the flow. But I see what you're saying too. Good for him if he likes experimenting. But he can't expect everyone to like it. And a few stans here also need to accept that some people won't like it and will citisize. You can't expect everybody to enjoy it just because you enjoy it. And not talking about you. Just generally speaking.

May 29, 2021 I think listening to Hip Hop for the beats is wrong. It should never be about the beats. The beats are the extra component. Listen to Hip Hop for the lyrics. Although I know tons of people don't. This is my view of it. I don't listen to Tupac albums for amazing beats. In fact, they were all made by mostly one dude, Johnny J and they did not sound all that different after you play a few CDs back to back. It's the lyrical content for me. And always will be. And as far as the whole Stan's and what they want... I don't think he cares all that much. He cares enough to get mad over the Revial criticism, but beyond that I just don't know. Sure he reads everything, infuses himself into everything that is going on but... MMLP2 was nothing like 1. Beyond me liking or hating that project, I don't think Em can ever go back and do what he used to do so whatever it is he does in the future will be either close or very far from what fans expect. I am just glad he is still making music. I am going to keep it that simple here. I will hate some, like some, perhaps even love a few but the dude will never make an album like his first 3 which I consider flawless.
May 29, 2021 Dude take a deep breath. I am not a Recovery fan there is no point in discussing that album with me. Songs I like from there are Cold Wind Blows, W.T.P, Almost Famous and at times I'd include On Fire and Untitled. But again I explained why I don't like it. Part of what I like about Eminem is his lyricism and if you break down that Album his writing was beyond lazy.
May 29, 2021 I agree with your second paragraph excepept or him not caring that much. He does care. There are countless times he complained on songs about fans not being happy. He cares about both the fans and the critics and what they say. As for listening for hiphop just because of beats I agree with that too. Except I said storytelling, not just the beat. Em ain't talking about s--- half the time these days. The beat is important too tho. Will you really enjoy bumping a track in your car if the beat is wack af and the song in general sounds like s---? I doubt it.

So even the one time he had an opportunity to emulate, replicate, mimic whatever word you want to use, one of his most arguably beloved albums he did not really do that. He releases an album to crap on the critics I mean I don't know if that's a move from someone who cares. He cared enough to get offended, but then he didn't care enough not to burn bridges. Same as the Trump thing, or constantly calling out fans. I think it's a bit deeper than just saying he cares. He does, and he doesn't and again beyond the surface of things there is more to it. I don't listen to music to bump into my car. Not that sort of fan. I analyze lyrics; I get immersed in storytelling, lyrical acrobatics. Half the rappers I know probably would be lost on this site. And that's not even a dig, I just seen what some of these dudes listen to, and true its the age difference and also some Em fans are not even hip hop fans or don't listen to anything beyond him. Like when I say I am a Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Rakim fan dude I mean that and I don't bump that in cars if you get where I am going with this.

I also have a feeling you are probably coming to this from a way younger age group than me, so that alone would never ever work. Or you are the same age or older than me, but just feel how you feel and you are more than entitled to it. When I talk hip hop I bust out 95' dude, some of these kids on here talk about DaBaby when I talk about purist Hip Hop. And again I have a buddy with a six age difference and what he likes and what I like could not be different yet we are both hip hop connoisseurs. Know our stuff and can talk for hours and days about this. Age does make a difference even 6 years.

There is no right or wrong when discussing purely subjective stuff and that's what we've been doing so far.
