I used to listen the s--- out of singles. for example rap god, berzerk. When the album dropped I was so mad I already listened to the best songs and that all the other songs were more or less trash

I take your points right up to the last paragraph but I've already responded or said what I feel on that, so I wont repeat myself. We both said what we feel on that stuff I think.

With the last paragraph though - this is where I have a problem...

Posing any music some consider bad quality music in the light of 'the old misunderstanding the new'. If that was the case then Rosenberg wouldn't be screaming Kendrick is the goat every chance he gets. It's not a case of old and new generation, as there's plenty of new generation rappers who are praised and understood by everybody...

So I think that is a cop-out and disrespectful to people who make music of a certain quality - as in - put words together with a great deal of thought, come up with innovative concepts and carefully think over and put together crafted bodies of work to stand the test of time - I think it's disrespectful to them to put some of the mentioned in the same camp as them and imply they're worthy of the same respect and it's just an age thing,

Also disrespectful to imply that everybody who dislikes their music must have some generational agenda or misunderstanding or problem with posturing or some surface level s---, as opposed to genuinely having listened to - and concluded - that the lyrics and composition, or ideas, themes and execution of the music is badly made.

That implies it's like an objective fact that it's not and anybody who says otherwise simply comes under the generational theory.

That's just abandoning any level of critical analysis.

I totally disagree that some named or alluded to will go down as legends. I think they will be forgotten, or beloved by a very small group of people who grew up on their music, but that it will not have lasting impact - because of the low level of input, creativity and thought put into it.

to all the apologists on this forum,we dont dislike the new song because we hate em or smt, we dislike it bc we know hes capable of so much more(by more I mean pre rec/rel era).
We actually probably love him more than you guys saying everything he does is gold.
We know deep inside hes way better than this and thats whats pissing us off.

simple. so stop attacking people that disagree with you please.

ALSO, em keeps on complaining that he keeps on trying to recapture his old self/style in music but its just not working and alot of you guys are eating it as facts.

Im sorry but surrounding yourself with rubin and other yes men, only using premaid beats with premaid hooks and finally only using rock beats isnt trying to recapture his old style at all, its predestine to failure.em is so full of s---,its ridiculous.

Disagree but that has nothing to do with the point of my post.

People are saying that those criticizing this song are not giving credit to the content but that's not true, why settle for poverty music when theres so much great music with meaningful content coming out on a consistent basis. Eminem's woe is me song about how he's failed to make good music for the past decade doesn't affect me as deeply as the content of this song does for example. I respect Eminem and wish him the best but the s--- he's doing is just really transparently uninspired. Everything about this song down to the artwork lacks any sort of artistic signature and is just a weak attempt at making music.

Is this the worst track ever on an Eminem album?

Certainly got the worst flow of any album track he’s ever made

I mean...how can you *flow* over no beat? Like...how is that possible exactly?Or over a piano? That's not possible. When you freestyle, like when rappers used to freestyle on the street surrounded by people without a beat...you couldn't judge their flows because there was no beat to flow to. So...how can you criticize his "flow" on Walk on Water when there's basically no flow to it because he recorded it acapella.

it wasn't recorded acapella it was recorded to the music, you can clearly hear it

and it doesn't matter that there's no drums, the song still has structure/rhythm those are not just some random piano sounds lol

Maybe the technical term is ‘cadence’ ... but if you take Lose Yourself acapella and listen to it without music...there’s is a rhythm and flow to it

When I added drums to this song strangely some of his syllables/rhymes DO align nicely with the hats/snares etc and then randomly (especially verse 3) the rhythmic nature of his lines falls to pieces

I’m assuming that it’s deliberate but it makes it incredibly unsatisfying to listen to, at least for me anyway.

interesting... as I previously mentioned to the near ending of the song when the line
"But when I do fall from these heights though, I'll be fine..." comes you can hear, now I don't know do I have some SUPERhuman hearing but you can clearly hear it sounds like it was acapella,it sounds like it's from campaign speech...the tone...maybe I'm wrong I apologize for my ignorance but it just sounds weird.

Alright I respect your opinion. I personally dont' mind the overall execution. The "beat" is a piano with a violin on some parts of the song. It's not your typical hip hop song with a trap snare or a drum and I personally don't mind.

Yeah this defintely wasn’t recorded accapella but I can see why others think that since his voice overpowers the beat since it’s so subtle to the point you can hear him breathing towards the end like his bet cypher but I’m sure this was 100% supposed to be like that it was intentional if you ask me
