So I just got back from seeing this movie it's no secret that critically, this movie bombed. As of writing this, the current score for this movie stands at 27% which most people would presume means the movie is utter dogshit. But if there's people on here like me, who don't take critics' opinions to heart and go judge a movie for themselves then perhaps this will help you you decide whether there's still something in this movie for you.

Movie starts off great. The soundtrack sets the tone and the music provided throughout the film is very entertaining and fits scenes perfectly. For most characters, this is their first time in live action. Some have been featured in the TV series, so there's introductions to these characters to be made. We get some back story to most characters but not a lot. Doesn't seem to be needed. Their agendas and how they came to be in the current time of the movie are handled pretty well. Deadshot and Harley Quinn are focused on more for obvious reasons. Most known characters and most known actors within the movie so it makes sense. There's a lot of humour within this movie, which didn't make it bad. It wasn't laugh out loud humour but it got reactions. Will Smith was fantastic as Deadshot. Was great to see him as a villain. Although at times he was very 'Will Smith' which I can't complain about. But seeing him in a different light was a breath of fresh air. Margot Robbie was fantastic as Harley Quinn. Very, very reminiscent of Batman: The Animated Series. She was quirky, sexy, funny and a badass. Her interactions with Mr J himself was great to see on screen.

Let's talk about the Joker. Jared Leto brings his own take of the character. And before you expect me to say whether or not he was better than Heath Ledger or of Heath Ledger was better, that's not going to happen. Was Leto good as the Joker. Absolutely!! That's what matters to me, the fact that he put on an incredible performance with big shoes to fill and a lot of weight on his shoulders. The downside to Joker is the fact that he isn't in the movie as much as I expected. If anything, he wasn't essential to the main story. It seemed he was just there because it gave Harley Quinn more credibility, you could say. The movie would've felt the same if Joker wasn't involved but I'm glad he was in it. Durability is my only issue but cannot complain at all about Leto's performance.

As far as the villian is concerned, I wasn't on the edge of my seat over it. It wasn't predictable but I didn't feel any shock value or interest in it. I feel they could've went an alternate route when it came to the main villain.

Other characters like Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang and El Diabolo were very entertaining to watch. Killer Croc, I feel should've been used more. I was excited to see him on screen for the first time but I feel he should've been used more and I felt that the movie didn't come across to show what an animal and a monster he is. I enjoyed watching Boomerang. He's a very comedic character but most of his comedic scenes were wasted in the trailers but Jai Courtney performed well. I wasn't very familiar with El Diablo, who he was, why he was and what he was. But I felt very invested in him and wanted to know more. His character is very well explained in the movie.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie. I feel the 27% on RT at the moment is ridiculous. The movie isn't as dark as BVS and there is light humour in it. There were rumours back in April or so that parts were re-shot or re-written to change the tone of the movie...I could definitely sense it but it didn't take away from the experience. Will Smith and Margot Robbie carry this movie in my opinion. With Jared Leto being great in it as well. You're always waiting for him to pop up again. If you love Will Smith, you'll love this. If you love Harley Quinn from TAS, you'll love this.

I enjoy Man of Steel and BVS is a guilty pleasure simply because I am a fan of Batman, so I'm not sure where to rank it within these 3 movies. But all I'll say is that I personally enjoyed the movie, already knowing what the reviews were like but it didn't effect my viewing or my experience. I do recommend people to go see it, if you're a DC fan. I don't think people who aren't DC fans or comic book fans in general would enjoy this. But I was satisfied after seeing the movie and would like to see some characters explored or used more in upcoming movies.

Nintendo releasing new mini version of its classic NES system with 30 built-in games

Nintendo Co. is doubling down on nostalgia with the introduction of a mini version of its classic Nintendo Entertainment System.

The new mini NES will include 30 built-in games and will connect to modern televisions via HDMI. Alongside the mini NES, Nintendo is releasing new gamepads that will look and feel exactly the same as the ones released with the original NES in 1985. The new pads will work with the new mini NES and also will plug into Wii remotes, meaning they can be used to play classic games on Nintendo’s Wii and Wii U systems.

The original Nintendo Entertainment System, based on the slightly different Japanese Famicom system, was released in the fall of 1985 in the wake of the crash of the Atari 2600 and in the midst of a moribund video-game industry. The NES’s surging success revived the games industry, and moved the centre of games development, especially for home consoles, from North America to Japan.

During the heyday of the NES in the late 80s and early 90s, Nintendo’s core franchises such as Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda became ubiquitous in modern culture inspiring cartoon shows, movies and even cereals.

The announcement of the mini NES, alongside the release of the blockbuster Pokémon GO, shows that Nintendo is wasting little time transitioning from a company that produces games for its own long-term hardware platforms to one that’s attempting to get the most value out of its billion-dollar brands.

“[A] key thing is that for us, [is that] the mobile initiative is itself a part of a larger plan that we have, which is really to expand the reach of Nintendo characters, Nintendo franchises and Nintendo IP,” Bill Trinen, Nintendo’s senior product marketing manager told us in an interview about the company’s Miitomo app in March.

The classic NES is coming on November 11 and will cost US$59.99 and $79.99 in Canada.

A complete list of the games coming with the new NES (h/t The Verge)

Since the communal film club has failed a couple of times due to participation, I've decided to try something new... an individually curated film club. Each week I will announce a film I am planning to watch. Whoever wants to join will watch said film and then come here to participate in the discussion. If no one joins, it ends up with me just providing a review of the film on my own, so no harm done. I will take recommendations of films to choose and if people catch on I'll start nominating others to choose the film for that week.

I'll try not to pick overly obscure films, but I will definitely be picking films that challenge the viewer and which may or may not have been on their radar but which remains, for whatever reason, unseen. Mainly, it'll be for myself, and I'll be picking films that I want to watch anyways. But basically I'll try to pick films that people generally want to watch and I'll be consulting with the IMDB top 250 list to make sure the film I choose is popular enough to perhaps bring some non FlickYouCrew members in here.

The film will be announced each Friday, with the hopes that by Sunday I will have watched and made a post about it, something which will perhaps entice you guys to watch it yourselves and to come in to discuss. If you've seen it, obvs shed your two cents.

Christopher Nolan looks to be headed to France during World War II for his next project.

Sources tell Variety that Nolan will direct “Dunkirk” from his own original screenplay as his next project. Insiders say the yet-to-be cast unknowns will lead the cast, but that Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy are in talks to join the ensemble.

Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas.

The story is set during the legendary evacuation of the northern French city during WWII. Nolan and his casting department recently began testing teenagers in London for lead roles, but the director also wanted to nail down some choices for the few adult roles in the film before the holiday.

“We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Christopher Nolan, a singular filmmaker who has created some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of all time,” said Greg Silverman, president, Creative Development and Worldwide Production. “‘Dunkirk’ is a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realize it on the big screen.”

Warner Bros. has dated the film for July 21, 2017. The large-scale production will be shot on a combination of Imax 65mm and 65mm large format film for maximum image quality and high-impact immersion. Shooting will begin in May using many of the real locations of the true-life events, which form the background for the story.

Rylance, who received a Golden Globe nomination for “Bridge of Spies,” will next rejoin Steven Spielberg in “The BFG,” slated for 2017. He is repped by Hamilton Hodell.

Hardy, who is repped by CAA, can be seen in Fox and New Regency’s “The Revenant” while Branagh most recently helmed “Cinderella” for Disney.

Has anyone seen this? It's on Netflix. It's a documentary on Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey over the course of about 30-31 years. It's 10 episodes, each about an hour long. It's a disappointing and sick (literally) watch.

Since it's relatively new please use spoiler tags on the important/big details on the show and its outcome. Or if you're even familiar with the case and haven't seen this.

EDIT: First episode is on Youtube

    Audio Formats
An audio format is a type of computer file that stores music. Music formats are either uncompressed lossless, compressed lossless, or lossy.

    BITRATES
A bitrate is the number of bits conveyed or transferred in a unit of time. When talking about music formats, bitrate is used in kilobits per second (kbps). When comparing files with different bitrates (of the same song), the file with the higher bitrate has the higher quality.

For example, an MP3 320kbps (CBR) file transfers 320 kilobits per second.

    UNCOMPRESSED LOSSLESS
Uncompressed lossless formats store all of the original recorded data. Since silence is given the same number of bits per second as sound is, uncompressed lossless files are huge. The main uncompressed lossless format is pulse-code modulation (PCM).

    Examples
    • WAV (PCM) (used on Windows)
    • AIFF (PCM) (used on Mac OS)
    COMPRESSED LOSSLESS
Compressed lossless formats store all of the original recorded data in less space than uncompressed lossless formats by compressing the data. By giving silence almost no bits per second and compressing sound, a compressed lossless file is usually half as big as the same song stored in an uncompressed lossless file.

Since both uncompressed lossless formats and compressed lossless formats retain all the data from the original recording, they can be transcoded between each other without a loss in quality.

    Examples
    • Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC)
    • Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC)
    • Monkey’s Audio (APE)
    LOSSY
Lossy formats are always compressed. Lossy formats have smaller file sizes than both uncompressed lossless formats and compressed lossless formats because they remove some of the original data. Usually the removed data is in the higher frequencies that humans can’t hear, however, there can be obvious audible differences between lossy formats and lossless formats.

Because lossy formats remove data during compression (and thus lose quality), lossy formats CANNOT be transcoded to lossless formats or other lossy formats without losing more quality.

    Examples
    • MPEG Layer 3 Audio (MP3)
    • Advanced Audio Encoding (AAC)
    • Windows Media Audio (WMA)
    • Dolby Digital Audio Codec 3 (AC3)
    • DTS Coherent Acoustics Codec (DTS)
    FILE SIZE
Here’s an example of how the file size of the same song varies depending on whether the song’s format is uncompressed lossless, compressed lossless, or lossy. Let’s take the classic pop song, Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne. For reference, the song is 3 minutes, 24 seconds long.

Uncompressed Lossless — WAV (PCM): 34.3 MB

Compressed Lossless — FLAC: 25.75 MB (25% compressed)

    Lossy — MP3 320 (CBR): 7.78 MB (78% compressed)

    TRANSPARENCY
Transparency is a term used to describe the audible quality of a lossy music file. A lossy file is considered transparent if the average human cannot tell the difference between the lossy file and a lossless file of the same song by just listening to both without knowing which file is which.

For most people, MP3 192kbps (CBR) is considered transparent.
