Hip Hop has become such a "safe" genre now.

Too many fans would much rather hear their favourite artist drop 3 projects in one year that sound the same using a tried and tested formula, than listen to an artist that is willing to push boundaries and try something new with each release.

no to be honest, Unitled remastered by kendrick is better than TPAB. Neither are "accessible' but both are probably better than views, which is basically a watered down version of Take care.

I have no gripes with people saying that future and drake are more enjoyable or entertaining. The reality is, watered down, mindless rap has been around in every era and was always more popular/as popular than the 'lyrical' stuff (which was more popular than it is now) because it was easier to dance to or memorize the lyrics etc.

This idea that this is a new dynamic, is bs. There are always new waves of rap with every era but its really just a different way to deliver a dumb song.

Yeah no this is horribly off you got guys like ye dropping every three years and you got guys like Thugger dropping every other month. And I'm not sure who you're referring to as using the same formula because with the exception of Evol each future project has provided us with a new sound and each thugger mixtape for pretty much the last 4 years has been wildly different from the previous one both in thuggers delivery and the production.

I think you're not embracing what makes all these current records good. If an 80s hip hop head tried judging 90s rap by how similar it was to his s--- he remembers he'd think 90s rap was a---.

I think the difference is that rap in general is less concerned with straight up rapping in the traditional sense and the rappers that still are (em, slaughterhouse, etc) feel like relics. There's a lot more experimentation with melody and using their voice as an instrument rather than being 100% focused on lyrics. Have you listened to 1999 by Joey Badass? You might like, sounds very 90s.

Also piƱata if you haven't listened. Same producer as madvillainy.

Can you expand? Not sure if I agree with that statement.

These new sounds are potential classics, I think in a decades time we'll still be worshipping Future's legendary run and everyone will see how wavy Thugger is, among others.
