Whoever the female vocalist is on Sweet Trip, she's an angel :allears:

I've been exploring their catalog after you plugged them into the summer music thread from weeks ago, honestly blown away with each project!

Knew you'd enjoy this! I'm still taken aback by how dense (but good) this album came out. The Kendrick comparison is spot on. His previous album - Common Sense was great but had a much lighter touch. This coming on the back of his being released from prison definitely influenced the sound and direction, and you absolutely nailed the description!

    #34: J Hus - Big Conspiracy [8.6?/10]

This thread been a blessing as of late. On one hand, I'm mad at myself for taking this long to finally cross the Atlantic and venture into what the UK had to offer in hip-hop. On the other, I've been vastly blown away by what I hit play on, this one in particular, was probably the strongest album I've heard thus far from the motherland. This is coming strictly off a first time listen, I'm positive down the line I'm going to give this album a higher rating.

I had massive GKMC flashbacks; but instead of being in Compton, California we're thrown into the politicized whirlwind world of Stratford, London that J Hus evocatively brings to life. He's a serious complete package as a rapper; having an Arsenal of flows and melodies along with an ability to be incredibly descriptive to give another platform for those final punches to land that much harder. This is more than just a 'conscious' rap album, it's a stunning demonstration of a rapper with a clear philosophy and a laser-focused technicality that could tear down the societal barriers J Hus is rallying against in this project. Loved the varied production that accompanied J Hus' vocals, there were mixes of lo-fi, live instrumentation & afro-beat that only hammer home the metropolitan narratives that comes to mind when you think of London. Amazing album, amazing rapper, amazing pick!

    #32: dvsn - A Muse In Her Feelings [8.2/10]

I concur with you here, this has been another personal favorite of mine this year! For awhile I was scared for dvsn as they were out of the spotlight for awhile, well at least Daly's voice was. There was also the concern that they would never even come close to reaching the sultry heights they did with the magnificent Sept. 5th tape (holy f--- it's really been 4 years!?). Morning After was solid, but it definitely had all types of OVO A&R fingerprints over it, it sort of hampered expectations over what dvsn was capable of.

Luckily this album was a huge return to form! The singles leading to this were very promising, the exact airy/funky synth-heavy brand of R&B Nineteen85 is so good at producing. There was more than just them settling into their comfort zone, they took a lot more song-writing risks than I had ever heard before from them. Usually Daly seemed elusive and wistful in his songs, but this time he gets more intimate and we get to see him peel layers back to give this project a lot more depth than just being another shallow R&B album. Plus it helps the guests on here are all tailor-made for each appearance (although I wish the Future song was better), so overall we get an excellent & complete effort from them, it gives me a lot of hope they can top Sept. 5th one day!

Yeah, Pezet is always ahead of everything in here. He makes a new project, people s--- on it and a few years later it's the most popular s--- lmao. EDM, dubstep earlier, trap etc. European rap is so d--- mixed.

f--k this is tough, love how Europeans weave EDM into hip-hop. @BIGFOOT got me into grime and it's been such a ride going through all of this, all those records you recommended were absolute heat bro!

    #31: Lord Finesse - The Awakening [8.2/10]

As a native from the birthplace of Hip-Hop aka the BX, I still feel like we've been overestimated heavily in comparisons to the rest of the Boroughs. Queens & Brooklyn ran wild during the 90s, Harlem picked up at the tail-end of that decade & Staten Island had f---ing Wu-Tang. After KRS sort of faded out, we didn't really have that talisman that could rival everything else, Big Pun tragically left us too soon in spite of the atomic explosion he left in his wake. One group from the BX however left an indelible impact in the underground niche with DITC, to any dusthead they're a gold standard in the NY scene with notable alumni.

Lord Finesse was one heck of a producer, his greatest strength was finding these insane jazz samples like ATCQ and then stripping them of any sunshine with some sinister drum loops. Every time you saw a DITC remix with Finesse listed on the credits, you knew it was gonna be a b-----r. When it came to this album, it was like Return of the Funky Man but on steroids as the production was even more otherworldly and it had a much bigger collection of guest verses. I really can't stop raving over the instrumentals on here, how can something sound so crystalline and so evil at the same time!? My one complaint is Finesse himself isn't exactly a compelling rapper, the high points on here are when O.C, A.G or whoever else come in and leave earth on their guest verses. But that isn't to dismiss him like that, what we get is a very cohesive album that maintains a consistent energy from start to end, it's a hidden gem of the 90's in the same vein as how Finesse dug through the crates to find his samples.
