Nice, I don't think Neon Demon officially screens until next week, but that's a good start.

    Toni Erdmann
sounds pretty great. I strongly recommend Maren Ade's last film Everyone Else, which was a really raw but affecting relationship drama.

Reviews from certain early screenings carry over. It's got more than a couple.

^That's gotten really divisive responses. I've only seen Fish Tank from Andrea Arnold, which I thought was pretty dope.

No one asked, but I saw The Playlist do this. After seeing Dheepan, this is how I'd rank the Palme winners since 2000.

    1, The Tree of Life
    2. The Child
    3. Winter Sleep
    4. The White Ribbon
    5. Blue is the Warmest Color
    6. Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives
    7. The Pianist
    8. The Class
    9. Elephant
    10. Amour
    11. 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (In need of a rewatch)
    12. Dheepan
    13. The Wind That Shakes the Barley
    14. The Son's Room
    15. Fahrenheit 9/11
    16. Dancer in the Dark

There were a lot of raves yesterday for Jarmusch's Paterson at Cannes. Jeff Nichols' Loving got a solid response this morning, though some found it too Oscar-y.

Very divisive reaction, including some boos, for Assayas' Personal Shopper with K-Stew. K-Stew apparently kills it again though.

Pretty tough early response for the new Dolan at Cannes...I saw a couple of positive notices, but most were pretty brutal.

I learned something new related to The Master. Joaquin Phoenix's family was actually part of a cult.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_International#Raised_in_COG_as_children

The synopsis read like Dolan was doing something slightly new given his very limited vision. Not surprised tbh.

    From what I've seen:

    1. The Pianist
    2. Amour
    3. Winter Sleep
    4. Blue is the Warmest Color
    5. Dancer in the Dark
    6. Elephant

    POWER GAP

    7. Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives
    8. The Wind That Shakes the Barley

"Reports of critics literally screaming profanities at the screen as Neon Demon ended. Hold on to your butts."

"The Neon Demon got exactly the reception I'm sure Refn was hoping for. Audience members literally shouting abuse at the screen."

"The Neon Demon: Visually and sonically it's Refn's most sublime work. Story-wise it barely exists."

"At "the neon demon" press screening some viewers are leaving the theatre. Understandable."

"THE NEON DEMON: slick with blood and glitter paint, Refn denounces superficiality with superficiality. A gorgeous hypocrisy I'm unopposed to."

"It's going to be a huge challenge to find the words to describe just how putrid NEON DEMON is. What a piece of s---."

"THE NEON DEMON: Resounding boos for Refn's getting-eaten-by-LA fantasia, which I dug. Not convinced much there beyond pretty surfaces tho."

"The Neon Demon is brilliant I absolutely loved it and really want all those who booed it to shut up."

"Dumbstruck by THE NEON DEMON, Nicholas Winding Refn's nightmare fairytale of LA. Savage & sublime; an assault on the senses."

"The Neon Demon is pervy, self-indulgent nonsense but there's a trashy allure. It's Death Becomes Her remade by Terry Richardson."

"Boos and loud Spanish heckling for The Neon Demon."

"Holy cow, Black Swan, Mulholland Drive, Heathers, Blow-Up & Only God Forgives have mated."

"The Neon Demon - So. f---ing. Rad. A f----- up study on narcissism drenched in neon. Refn gives finger to the audience & laughs all along."
