Cool s---! Where did you s---t this?
:sad4: R.I.P. to a true legend. All the way through to his last feature, Like Someone in Love, Kiarostami showed no signs of slowing down and continued to experiment and bring something new with each work. Close-Up is a film I'll continue to rewatch for years.

Just around South Florida, mostly at the beach and a Japanese garden. I have an actual premise and an actor for my next short which I'll actually be collaborating with @Old_Parr on, so that should be interesting.

Agreed about Kiarostami. This is the toughest loss for me. He was my favorite filmmaker along with Malick and he had so much promising work ahead of him. A true legend and perhaps the most important filmmaker we've ever had. It will never be the same without him.

    As Godard once famously said:

"Film begins with DW Griffith and ends with Abbas Kiarostami."

Green Room was okay. Definitely overrated. Can't say I'm in love with Jeremy Saulnier as much as most seem to be.
Francofonia, Everybody Wants Some!!, Green Room, and Batman v. Superman bluray rips are all out btw. @MovieSXN

Saulnier's films certainly don't have much in the way of depth, but they're more tense and formally accomplished than similar, like-minded fare. His in-over-their-head protagonists also lend his thrillers a certain awkward dynamic that's kind of cool.

I'm not saying they're bad, but the amount of praise heaped on them has been increasingly growing. His trope subversion is already kind of played out. His vision feels very shallow and gimmicky. I don't mind a color motif like when Bergman did Cries & Whispers, but you really shouldn't lean on something so one note. Hopefully he starts fresh after he completes a colors trilogy. He handles tone and story structure very well. I just want to see him put it to different uses I guess. These two films feel too similar. I'd rather watch a late career Cronenberg picture any day.

I just bought The Devil's Backbone myself. I may get another 1 or 2 before the sale ends.

Just rewatched the Coen brothers' Blood Simple for the first time in years. It was never one of my favorites as I remember finding it somewhat cold and mechanical. This time though, I really dug it and it definitely jumps a lot higher on my list for the Coens. While It certainly is cold, it's such a concise, sharply executed thriller that I found myself much more taken by its precise, exacting technique on second viewing. Although the characters don't amount to much more than chess pieces on a board, the pieces are at least being moved by masters.

I watched Woody Allen's What's New, Tiger Lilly? a while back which was one of his earliest pictures where he bought the rights to an obscure Japanese spy thriller and dubbed it into a comedy. I thought it was a pretty unique experiment, especially for its time. So Disney channel hired that Bad Lip Reading guy to dub High School Musical. Avant garde stuff guys.
