Imagine the meager marketing budget they're working with. The image itself in that one is dope at least. The fear in her eyes is so genuine.

Word. I haven't seen the Blanchett version yet and there is no info on a home release of either versions in NA yet.

Well that's my point, it's not about the budget, it's about the talent.

I happened to watch I, Daniel Blake today. It's completely predictable both aesthetically and narratively and it lacks any form of nuance or complexity but as much as I tried to fight it, I was ultimately moved. Only others I've seen are Kes (pretty good) and The Wind That Shakes the Barley (pretty boring).

Well I was responding to Land and Freedom (1995), and the only other one that I've seen is The Wind That Shakes the Barley. I might make one last effort with I, Daniel Blake.

I dunno I really enjoyed it. Hope the two of them can write stuff that isn't just their life story cuz that'd be cool. Just a likable movie . Liked how the stand up was actually done properly and didn't seem like people trying to write what they think stand up is (but this is kinda being done to perfection on Crashing). It's a bit hacky in places but maybe that's just me not being able to just fall for tropes anymore. Romano stole the show tho!

Glad you mentioned Crashing. Louis, Mike Birbiglia's movies, Obvious Child, Master of None, 50/50, etc. Not every stand up needs a screenplay loosely based on their life.

I feel Crashing is the best because it's on HBO and can do what it wants really(although I'd argue Louie isn't really about comedy or even really about Louie most of the time). Plus it has Artie :emoji_heart: There's been a huge want for like stand up comedy insider stuff it seems in recent years. Obviously because of the age of podcasting. See when i saw Obvious Child i definitely felt that movie didn't grasp stand up properly and the sets were written to much to seem like stand up. Good movie tho (although the people saying the movie was apolitical made me lol)

This is the same class of people that are responsible for writing 99% of television shows anyway. Their whole outlook and lifestyle was cliche before they ever got to star in their own work.

Yeah not a bad movie. Just not something I wanted to pay to see in theaters. Like, if I caught it on TBS some afternoon, fine

Edit: it most reminded me of Love on Netflix
