I mean, it wasn't a comment meant to be taken seriously. Kind of a heckle. I'd quip the same thing about something like A.J. Edward's The Better Angels being Malick worship, but that doesn't mean I didn't like it or wouldn't defend somebody who took that claim seriously.

Only take me seriously if I slander Xavier Dolan or James Gray....

Anyways, The Ruins (2008) was a movie I didn't watch forever because the reviews were tepid. Once again proving to never trust popular consensus on a horror or a comedy. Gonna read the book at some point too. :emoji_heart:

Well Malick did produce The Better Angels too and it's not an accident that this random director/DOP (both from his team I think) got the Lubezki look. I'd rather look at it alongside his work than call it imitation.

Holding Days of Heaven above the rest of Malick's work is not "hating on Lubezki" lol. h---, Lubezki was the only reason The Revenant was sufferable at all.

Days of Heaven is pretty, but To the Wonder is the peak of moving photographs.

well, i'm not really a producer, more a person to discuss s--- with. and the reason that works is because I critique the h--- out of him and rip him apart when I don't like what he's doing.

I'm not one who thinks Scorsese is defined by his gangster movies, but it's hard not to get a little hyped about the reunion with De Niro and Pesci for The Irishman.

You basically just provided my response for me. Why would there be any kind of ethical lapse? I'm his bud who's helping him grow a network. He is currently a guy posting movies he makes for himself and his friends on this and other message boards. I'm not out here writing critical praise in major journals for the guy, lol, I'm just providing support and insight from my own personal background, which involves years of study and interest in the cinematic arts. My opinion of his work has always been genuine, whether I'm for or against a piece, and you ought to consider the conversations which happen behind S80's surface. And even if you think there is some kind of conflict of interest, do you think professional producers don't make an effort to champion the films they support? Or that it's unethical to do so? That's pretty ridiculous, man.

I'm not really sure why you're making such an effort to knock down a fellow cinephile from exploring his creative side. It's like you want him to fail and the potential of his success somehow bothers you. That's just not very nice bro...

By the way, the only reason I started to gain this title from Raz as his producer is because I had a series of his films play at a local theater during an open-mic-movie-night, where debut filmmakers can present their films in a safe environment where putting someone down--like what you are doing--is unacceptable.

    People liked the films fyi.
