    On a lighter note,

    VIFF 17 about to start. I'll be providing coverage for Next Projection since I'm not working for the festival this year. I'll be able to spend my time actually watching films (like in 14/15)

    I have 53 films scheduled, but I also hold a full time job. Let's see what happens.

    Guaranteed, I'll be seeing the new Kiarostami, Sangsoo, Varda, Haynes, Haneke, Kaurismaki, Trier, Zvyagnitzev, Maddin, Ostlund, Perry, Baker, Lanthimos... and the rest is a bonus. :)

    I'm not deflecting at all - what "real" conversation am I too "weak" to face? I was busting you a bit for getting a "producer" credit when, I believe, you're a critic. There's obviously tension in being both. You can take yourself a little less seriously, it's not a big deal.

    Vahn is often deeply smug, his films are whatever (Not a "judgment" it's... a message board, everything is fair game). Rly unsure why you're acting like I'm impugning your character or something. Take it in stride -- I really respected man. Now? Gosh, idk..

    ANYways, just watched Angelina Jolie's Cambodian film, Frsit They Killed My Father. Thought it was a moderate success, in some ways more impactful than Cary fukunaga's similarly themed Beast of No Nation. Jolie's ability to frame and pace a story is.. suspect, but this lands enough to compensate for her sometimes still-novice eye. Would root for it if Netflix gets it nominated down the line

    One of the founders of Fantastic Fest, Harry Knowles, got sexual assault allegations levied at him this week like 5 minutes after Tim League, Texas Alamo founder, tried to reinstate Devin Faraci who was outed as a beta sexist with sexual assault problems of his own last year. Here's Knowles pretending to be a chick on his Ain't It Cool News website and reviewing Jolie's movie:

    He'd apparently been writing copy for Alamo despite League having publicly claimed he had left the company. There was a huge stink about it when they tried to bring him back on board in a transparent way, thankfully. Faraci is human garbage. If only Slant or ReverseShot marketed their s--- to man children maybe they'd have comparable readerships to all of these nerd culture blogs smh.
