    Premier League is back!

Liverpool vs Leeds is shaping up to be a thriller, Leeds just scored a phenomenal equalizer just as I typed this. Let’s see how this game develops, Leeds using those 3rd man runs to perfection on the break

So happy to have the leagues back.
Quite a nice game Liverpool vs Leeds, 5 goals in 30 minutes but you can easily see it's the first game of the season, both teams made some errors.

Also next week my favorite league, Serie A, starts and we also have Champions League qualifiers tuesday and wednesday

Leeds doing everything right...except defending set-pieces. All the hallmarks of Bielsa’s football on display: dynamic off-ball movements, aggressive pressing, with this time a twist as they’ve been playing on transition whereas Bielsa usually likes having majority possession. Excited to follow them this season.

Didn’t know Serie A was your favorite, I’m guessing memories of the great Mutu still linger :rickross:
Hard to see anyone else knocking Juve off their perch as long as CR7 is still there. My wishlist includes; Hakimi transforms Inter‘s offense a bit, Atalanta’s old legs still got some magic in them, Lozano breaks out at Napoli, Tonali elevating Milan, Lazio & Roma not choking again, Sassuolo’s team continues to develop...

Wasn't the biggest Mutu fan, but I watched his evolution in Serie A when he was playing for Parma when they had that amazing team with Bonera, Donati, Nakata, Maco Di vaio, Gilardino, Adriano, Taffarel, Paolo Cannavaro, Matuzalem.
I grew up watching Serie A as a kid the most cause it was the only one that was televised and I was always a fan of how great they could defend back in the day.
I can't really say if I have a favorite team in serie A, I would say Ac Milan because of the nostalgia it brings when I hear that name and the success they had when I was a teenager.

edit : I really hope someone can challenge Juventus for the trophy this year and for sure I know Inter can do it, but I think they're the only one. That's the thing that changed in the Serie A. In the past you couldn't say at the start who was going to win it for sure, you always had at least 4-5 teams with a real chance of winning the league.

Never got to experience firsthand Serie A’s heyday of the 90s, was too young + we had no satellite tv lol. You can attest to saying it was like the current Prem without the orbital tv deals & arguably even better footballers (Batigol & Rui Costa @ Fiorentina, Lippi’s monstrous Juve, Weah @ Milan, Baggio wherever he went, Parma’s superteams before the Parmalat fiasco, Totti & Cafu at Roma, I do fondly remember Lazio’s superstar team when I seriously got into football in 2000, R9’s tragedies at Inter). Sometimes our cable here in New York would randomly pick up RAI, I’ll never forget Shevchenko scoring that screamer against Juve.

I’ll share my fondness for La Liga after the game!

Oh yeah whoops, darn I was hoping for the draw but Leeds did exceptionally well in their first game back. A lot to build on here, though El Loco will probably cry hugging his video tapes with all the fouls they gave away in the box.

My dad was a Real Madrid fan since the 80s, Hugo Sanchez practically secured an entire generation of Mexican Madridistas in the 80s. My youth team coach was also a Real fan, he sometimes used to host barbecues and since he had ppv we used to watch them, the only other way we'd figure out European football scores was through Sunday morning sports segments on this wacky old Spanish show lol. 99/00 season was something else, that was the one that I still vividly remember the most since Depor won that one (they were something else with Fran, Makaay, Djalminha, Mauro Silva, etc.) and Barca's dumbasses choked in the final stretch after they dominated the 1st half of the season. That maniac Jesus Gil's reign of terror at Atletico reached it's lowest point when they got relegated and lost the Copa Del Rey final to Espanyol (RIP). Our league campaign...was a mess lmao, we were bottom 3 in November and then Del Bosque was hired and managed to salvage something, barely, we used to win one week and get trashed the next matchday, it was seriously wild. We finished 5th that season, if it wasn't for Raul, McManaman, Redondo & Roberto Carlos going berserk in the UCL we wouldn't have qualified at all!

I do wish La Liga reverts to how competitive that season was, Depor was a genuine threat, Zaragoza had a strong squad with that Paraguayan demon Acuna, Cuper's Valencia was the OG Simeone Atletico, freaking Alaves went to the UEFA Cup final...That was before Perez did his Galatico's and Barca was still wearing sponsor-less shirts.

@Fire Squad d--- nice, I remember all those times as well. I remember the Alaves UEFA Cup final like it was yesterday. Cosmin Contra (a great romanian defender was playing for them) and all those players you mentioned I said their first name in my head while I was reading what you said lol. Indeed Primera Division was strong, with Valencia being in the final of the Uefa Champions league in back 2 back years.

My dad was the one that introduced me to this sport. The first game I have ever watched was France in the round of 16 at the 1998 world cup against Paraguy and they got through by winning 1-0 scoring a golden goal in the extra time.
I have nice memories of me and my father waiting all day to watch a show on Eurosport named "Eurogoals" if I remember correctly. There were highlights from all the european leagues for the past week. Gotta give him a call tomorrow lol.

Sucks that the game was on at 2am over here and I couldn't stay up :wow2:

What a goalfest though and some amazing finishes around goal.

I'll try to catch the replay sometime soon but that Harrison goal was breathtaking!

Yep it sucks..... :sad1: Premier League has single handedly turned me into a night owl for over a decade now :wow2:

My work schedule has changed a lot so the best time for me is to wake up for the 4am games now... good for the champions league.
