Aug 21, 2017 People focused on the timeline with them stranded in the lake a lot, but I thought the rushed little convos between them on the way out to the wild were bigger eyesores. I guess that's what happens when you have 1 season covering more ground than the previous 3.

Aug 21, 2017 They 1000% have enough story for 10 ep's. once they started diverting from the books then time/space comes into question. They had no intention of doing the siege of riverrun last season till they realized they had to do it in order to make the story connect. The show runners are purposely trying to end the story ASAP as they want to move onto other projects but they could have done a better job.

Aug 21, 2017 what? am i the only one who didn't give a f--- about the ice-island pacing? they were there overnight, like wtf? i'd say 1 guy running back to eastwatch and sending a raven, the raven then flying to dany and dany coming to help within 24 hours is completely reasonable. A plane from Dragonstone to Eastwatch would realistically take maybe 2 hours tops. so it makes sense dragons can arrive there within 24 hours imo.

And in the same moment, why didn't the Night King k--- Drogon?? No, instead, lets go for the flying dragon rather than the one just sitting there next to the queen. Okay.
Aug 22, 2017 Despite my unquestionable pleasance while admiring the visual aspects of the latest episode I can boldly say this was one of the worst episode of the series. I have a feeling the ending will be a massive disappointment. f--- the writers. Where's George R.R Martin when we need him?
Aug 22, 2017 George is currently stuffing his face with a hogie while drinking some arbor gold and watching re-runs of the X-Files... George must be rolling over committing human sacrifices to the black goat and the weirwoods for this awful storyline they mapped out. Especially for Sansa/Arya. They forced the s--- out of this season with no valid reason other than "were bored of thrones and want to move on." After these HBO leaks I can say with certainty HBO needs to grow a sack. They should have forced them into 10 ep's as usual for this season and next season especially since they wanted 10 seasons and only got 7.5. Thrones is their most popular show of all time and probably it's most lucrative yet they rolled over like a dead dog when it came to the extending them.
Aug 22, 2017 Read somewhere a while back that there was a pre production deal in 2007 that GRRM would have the series done by the time the show runners got to it. No source just remember reading about it a while back.
Aug 22, 2017 Extending the story beyond what GRRM had planned would be stupid as h--- -- it's surprising enough the show has gone on this long without turning to absolute s--- as is. The showrunners said they had 13 episodes of story left, so they split it into two short seasons instead of one extended one. Of course, I want more episodes in theory, but I'd rather have them end the story where it's supposed to end than extend it with filler. They maybe could have made this season 8 episodes, but I don't really think it's necessary, especially with no finished source material to go off of.
Aug 22, 2017 Your 100% right. However the show has been taking its own path since season 3 and has even gone so far as to change entire storylines such as dorne/sansa/iron islands. They could have stayed closer to the books (and yes I understand that even thrones has a budget that requires some makeshifting to keep storylines and characters intact) but the direction they chose completely changed the trajectory of the story. Not having source material to go off of definitely hurts but they know the main events that will happen in the last 2 books. That doesn't mean they needed force everything. No way are the books going to look remotely close to the show as it relates to Sansa/Arya that is just pure laziness. They have combined story lines and characters into 1 entity (I.e. Sandsnakes/gendry/euron) why stop now? They could have added some more material to cover events that take place in the books. It wouldn't be filler and it would elongate this season to make it not feel as forced/rushed
Aug 22, 2017 Yeah, that's fair about the books...but there's a lot of filler in book 4 especially, and even when they cut book filler they added other filler exclusive to the show. And that's kinda my point, is that they are close to the end and have the basic plotline of the books, so I'd rather have them finish it off strong than try to stall with made up stuff or book stuff that doesn't matter just to make it longer.

Aug 22, 2017 Swords > Thrones > Dragons > Clash > Crows imo Spoiler: book discussion Honestly it's been years since I've read them so I can't remember a lot, but one thing that sticks out to me is the first big chunk of Brienne stuff being entirely pointless. She went on some side adventure that ended up being entirely irrelevant. It was just kinda meandering overall. Obviously that has some to do with the format GRRM chose (dividing the 4th/first 2/3 of the 5th books by character instead of chronology), but its still a bit meandering nonetheless.
