Murder For Hire 2 had songs that were just as good as on Islah. His next album will be fire too. I'd say that you'll never get anything better than Barter 6 from Thug but I'd have to say you'll never get anything worse.

So far just Islah and Murder For Hire 1 & 2. I heard The Luca Brasi Story is one of his best so that's on deck.

i dont get where this "gates is more versatile" school of thought came from. maybe content wise? but they're very different writers. stylistically, thug has a lot more exciting moments in his discog.

i don't think gates is more versatile, it sounds like he's been making the same project since he broke out.

but that's not the point, i voted gates because i appreciate his transparency on his records, and imo his hook game is masterful - at a level only maybe 3-4 artists get to per decade. they're 50 cent level.

young thug is more ambitious and exciting, but i'm good with the safer islah over the more disjointed thug records.

young thug has a higher ceiling, and to me, he's a focused debut album away from ending any and all debate.

idk thug's hook game is definitely up there. and, from what you're saying, it just seems like thug requires you to engage with his work more than gates. i dont think thats a bad thing, but i can get why someone would prefer gates.

they both have great control of their voices though, even though i think thugs proved to be the more interesting singer.

when it comes down to it, thug always comes off like he's speaking in riddles...even when he's tryina tell a straightforward story lol. and gates is a lot more tangible.

they're both incredible rappers...i just think thugs history of rewarding risks is more than enough to give him the edge.
