My wifi goes out a ton and usually gives me diagnoistic results saying things like the gateway is invalid or the wireless adapter configuration has an invalid IP

I use homeplugs so that my computer can have wired connection through the wiring in my house and the wired connection always works fine

what are ways I can solve the problem with my wifi?

I assume you're using the default config from your ISP, it most likely has something to do w/ faulty configuration, or the router itself might be faulty. Try changing your DNS and see if that resolves it, if not you should probably phone up your ISP and get them to investigate. They can log onto your router and see what the problem is, shouldn't be a problem.
