Aug 19, 2015 People knock the film for being torture p--- and overkill, but that's a screenwriting problem. One you might actually attribute to the book it's based on (I haven't read it). Go watch HBO's Addiction. It's basically the same thing without a narrative to tie everything together. The editing, score, and performances (even the Wayans Brother) are all great. It's a worst case scenario picture. Go watch The Pianist if you demand justification for glutenous suffering. RFAD gets a lot of pushback for the same reasons as Fight Club, but they're both well made even if they appeal to a specific demographic for all of the wrong reasons. Ellen Burstyn nailed that role despite the problems you might have with its context.
Aug 19, 2015 I've never thought of RFAD as torture p---, i guess i could see those criticisms being somewhat justified, but there's a time and place for realism in film and a time and place for extremism, i think requiem pulled off what it was trying to do near flawlessly, i personally like it more then the pianist Havent seen HBO's addiction, think i'll check it out
Aug 19, 2015 Thanks, i like documentaries on drug abuse, i've always found the way drugs work really fascinating, As f---ing weird as that sounds
Aug 20, 2015 Sorry, should have stipulated that was a blanketed dismissal -- citing Requiem (note: and the performances!!) is kinda of like saluting Boondock Saints. besides, Burnstyn's best is Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. p---- And nah, i was pretty cool in hs tbh
Aug 20, 2015 You fool. You p----. common knowledge Requiem is one of those trite picks -- alongside Boondock, or Fight Club, or quoting Anchorman, or having a Che poster up -- that's a touchstone of college kids. Don't make me body slam you. (kidding aside, never liked Aronofsky)
Aug 20, 2015 1. Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood 2. Robert De Niro - Raging Bull 3. Joaquin Phoenix - The Master 4. Robert De Niro - Taxi Driver 5. Ryan Gosling - Blue Valentine (wild card!!) it's weird I can think of so many that would fall between 5-20 but it's so difficult to narrow it down to a top 5. Obviously missing Pacino, Brando, Hoffman, and many more. Wanted to include Bill Murray too Just went with performances that have stuck with me
Aug 20, 2015 Wrestler agreed, did not enjoy Black Swan @Narsh its TOP TEN nga -- you may include Bill Murray for Groundhog Day, i wont h8 u
Aug 20, 2015 Denzel Washington - Training Day Donnie Wahlberg - Sixth Sense Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Capote Bill Murray - Lost in Translation also an honorable mention to Scarlette Johanson, sometimes an overwhelming sex appeal (see Match Point & Vicky Cristina Barcelona)
Aug 20, 2015 5 was hard enough man u know I'm not critical enough!! Hoffman for Capote and The Master, Murray for Groundhog Day (and lost in translation), Pacino for godfather 2, DDL for Gangs and Lincoln (and my left foot and even crucible lol GOAT actor b), DiCaprio for Wolf, Samuel L Jackson for Django tbh, christoph for inglorious b------s, Hawke and Deply in the the before trilogy, Jim Carey in eternal sunshine and Truman show tbh, de niro in king of comedy, Wish I had a better grasp on actresses tho
