May 19, 2015 Ehhh, for how serious it takes itself it doesn't really work as a mindless action flick. At the same time, it's not well written enough to be an intriguing story. I just remember being let down after the opening scene. Sarah Silverman carried it. I actually watched it for the 2nd or 3rd time about a week ago. Viggo Mortensen absolutely kills it.
May 19, 2015 He sure does..every time I watch it I have to remind myself that this is the guy in the lotr. I've watched it with 2 different girlfriends and each time we get to the Spoiler part where his buddy is about to drown the baby I get asked if he's going to k--- it to which I usually have to reply bc thwy get all upset and,s---..how,do you feel about a potential sequel?Part of me loves the idea of watching Viggo do his thing again but I'm not sure if they would capture the same magic
May 19, 2015 @Raziel I don't think Cronenberg would ever be on board for a sequel, and I wouldn't trust it with anybody else. Especially not 7+ years after the original. I'd rather see Mortensen and Cronenberg do another film in general. I love A Dangerous Method, Eastern Promises, and A History of Violence. They really can't miss as a team.
May 19, 2015 @CharlieWork I need to check out A Dangerous Method, I don't think I've ever seen that one. I'm not saying a history of violence was bad but I don't really get the appEal of it..I was just kinda like oh...ok cool after it ended
May 20, 2015 If you didn't like A History of Violence, you'll probably hate A Dangerous Method. It's a really slow character study. Cronenberg has a knack for polarizing films. His filmography ranges from Cosmopolis, an alienating dialogue driven drama, to The Fly, a horror sci-fi B movie to Naked Lunch, a surreal adaptation of a beat generation novel. Incredible diversity, but hard for a fanbase to keep up.
May 20, 2015 I love the fly..I was talking to my girlfriend just yesterday or the day before about films holding up from my youth and that was definitely one of them. Such a creepy film along with jaws and the exorcist. edit: I actually wouldn't be opposed to watching A History of Violence again just to see how I feel now. Sometimes I'll watch a movie when I'm stressed or aggravated and it'll work against my judgment of a film or food
May 20, 2015 Well then you'd probably enjoy his other horror/monster work like Shivers and Videodrome. Videodrome is one of the darkest and trippiest movies ever. Absolute madness.
May 20, 2015 Best to ever come out of Canada. But nah, not sure what to say that you haven't already. He's the master of fusing genres and how he can work in multi-layered sexual and violent thematic concepts in both horror/dramatic backdrops that never feel rehashed so seamlessly is nothing short of incredible. Nobody can really f--- with him in that department. Videodrome Crash (preferably uncut) A History of Violence Dead Ringers Eastern Promises The Fly Maps to the Stars Cosmopolis eXistenZ The Dead Zone The Brood A Dangerous Method Scanners Shivers ^^What I've seen ranked.
