Sep 24, 2015 Age really has nothing to do with making good/accessible music. Can he really keep up with the pace he's currently on with quality while making the type of music to make him the most popular rapper in the world? I doubt it
Sep 24, 2015 I think Rich g--- was his best shot. His label won't push him when they have Fetty dominating the charts.
Sep 24, 2015 Um he has apparently 100s of song under lock and key just from this year. He has extremely accessible songs like she notice me still leaking from 2013 sessions. Good times already proved he can freestyle pop singles if he wanted to. It's just not how he's marketed right now. Age most definitely has something to do with it. He's already proven he can be accessible and that's without any real focus yet The question was if it could happen with thug. Yeah it could but not without a few changes in his direction as an artist obviously
Sep 25, 2015 Some would argue Fetty Wap is garbage Doesn't matter if you like his music or not, that wasn't the question.
Dec 11, 2015 was thinking something like this. either that or hes ahead of his time and someone else will blow up after him who is influenced by him
Dec 12, 2015 while i agree with you that thug is ever likely to get an adequate push from 300, i don't agree that it has anything to do with fetty wap. the label would love to have as many stars as possible. but they view thug as someone who's difficult to work with, and who more importantly has trouble connecting with a critical mass of listeners. they know they have something with thug, and with that knowledge comes a desire to not f--- it up. so you end up with singles that are either the wrong choice or picked too late; they hesitate to pull the trigger and are quick to back off when something doesn't look like it's going to stick.
Dec 12, 2015 I agree with this and don't think it contradicts my point. Fetty was a safe bet and you don't make your artists compete with each other. Especially ones with as much potential as them. You don't want Nicki and Drake dropping in the same quarter.
Dec 12, 2015 you're saying fetty being more bankable made him the better bet for september? sure, absolutely, but i'm saying thug's never going to get the push he deserves (or at least needs) from 300, at any point. i want to correct something in your post that seems small, but illustrates my point. you don't want to make your biggest artists compete in the same two- or three-week window, sure. maybe even the same month. but fetty dropped in september. when people say that the fourth quarter is the biggest seller, they really mean the last six weeks of the year. if they thought that thug had an album that might sell, and/or was the best they were likely to get for a while, they would have rushed it out for december. the fact that they didn't means they either have something they believe they can't do anything with, or are sure they'll finally hit it big with him. maybe both at the same time.
