yikes the standom from @WPG and @Narsh is a bit out of hand. at least with paul you know this is his horse in a race -- critics need to champion certain artists to convey clout... but narshus jesus, remove the multiple testies from your mouth bruh. if this was any other artist, im sure there'd be more of an even hand (well maybe not narsh, who is incapable of having an opinion that isnt insane enthusiasm)

paul, im sure you've heard how certain standups are "comics comics" -- the colin quinns of the world, etc. guys other comedians value, but has never really tapped into the zeitgeist, a la pryor or carlin or even bill burr. isn't there a similar development in rap? mock me if you want, but im trying to touch on Fundamental Truths about the Nature Of Art

No we just have an ear for quality music. I've seen the guy live, listened to the album and all I saw or heard is a parody of a rapper with nothing interesting to say, who tries to cover it by mumbling. If that's what you consider the future of hip hop then the whole genre is f-----.

I was going to say ''In the UK'' but I put England instead but you already quoted my mistake :lol6:

I was going to put ''Thug doesn't get played in the UK'' but I put ''Thug doesn't get played in the England'' which doesn't make sense, but I edited too late and you quoted ''In the England'' :'(

I'm derailing the thread I'm sorry but to contribute I will say that I think Thug has a long career ahead of him tbh

That's your third dodge. I get this is like, a third rate attempt at appearing glib/superior (lol), but the fact is you can't refute anything I've said. Go sit on the bench.

the same thing in rap absolutely exists--but where i think some "comics comics" are doing very clever things that mass audiences might not get, the traditional rapper's rapper is a guy who is very technically proficient but artistically kind of conservative. one be lo is a rapper's rapper. jadakiss (remember you don't love "last day"?). sean price (rest in peace).

i haven't read enough of narsh's posts--maybe he IS making thug out to be more popular than he is, but i doubt it. every single day i find myself talking about rap, in person, with people i've either never met before or don't know very well. and i can tell you one thing: nearly everyone has an opinion on young thug. i live in la, and there are self-proclaimed rap fans who haven't heard of vince staples, but most of those people can hold a conversation about thug. and his favorablity (heh) is higher than i imagine you'd expect.

this is the most childish post.
...have you entirely given up on trying to be a quality poster? this is so bad. and it doesn't even hold any merit -- i responded 20 times in this thread last night, and now 8 hours later, you say there's zero chance that i'll respond to someone elses post? what are you on? this is so so bad. take a look at how childish you've become.

@Peter Parker i'm at work right now -- i'll try to respond later.

I said, 4 times now, thug is not that big of a commercial success, despite his part in a handful of hits, but he will probably maintain a strong cult following
