Jan 13, 2016 MMLP and MMLP2 are the albums where the layered vocals aren't as heavy. TES and Recovery have them lots. want them back for the next album tbh
Jan 13, 2016 oh for sure. i love it..... but it something like " what couldve been" maybe another renegade of some sort
Jan 13, 2016 Eh... I mean, it would be interesting to say the least. I mean if he could flow on them properly, it might be able to work.
Jan 13, 2016 I know fam. You can tell he went with raw vocals for MMLP2. It'd be nice to hear those layered vocals again. They sound nice. Em's really good when it comes to layering/mixing vocals. His overall mixing has been a little off lately but I think that's just cause he's only been putting out side projects and that's no excuse but it's understandable. Hopefully he'll step up the mixing on his solo album. What kind of songs are you expecting to hear on his new album? I'm hoping to get a TES vibe from it.
Jan 13, 2016 Hoping for some BBTM and Ultra Violence type production. Eminem meets Money Power Glory & Wicked Games. Hoping he goes for a completely original concept/title. Would like to see him readopt the way he flowed during the TES era (He can still do it. Check out his performance of Renegade with Jay from 2010). Would like to see him experiment. Maybe some new distorted vocal sing song flow similar to Drake or Weeknd. Production wise I gotta go with Don Mckinney, Dan Auerbach, T-Minus, Terrace Martin, Illangelo, & Yeezy. Here are the songs/the performance I was talking about The way he loses himself in the performance during the second verse and forgets to bleep his words That passion
Jan 13, 2016 I've watched that performance of Renegade multiple times and love it more each time. You can tell that Em still has that raw passion and that it's very far from going away.
Jan 13, 2016 That's the thing, to me he sounds bored on a lot of his recent s---. Not a big fan of his material from Encore onward. That being said, he's still got it in him. Couple him with the right producers and some dope co writers and boom. Dope Eminem album. How would you feel about him on production similar to the two songs I posted? (Money Power Glory/Wicked Games).
Jan 13, 2016 They sound nice. They're very calm and soothing beats. I wouldn't mind hearing a few beats like those on his new album but I would prefer some more fast paced beats. This is probably dumb of me but for some reason I feel that this new album will have a TES vibe all the way through.
Jan 13, 2016 I feel ya. But I mean when you think about it, songs like SFTM were rather slow as well, but that gave em the time to slowly build momentum and tension through out the song, reaching a fever pitch during the third verse (Those final lines are godly). So for me, TES flow X Weeknd/Ultra Violence type production would be a dream come true.
Jan 14, 2016 Oh my God, SFTM is one of the most amazing and well crafted songs I've ever heard. If Em's new album has the type of production you're talking about then I can see that being a pretty good album. What direction would you like Em to go lyric/flow/subject matter wise? Do you think that Em will be able to make another classic like TES?
Jan 14, 2016 I do. When it comes to subject matter/themes/concept, that's hard to say, though what I can say is I want something new. I'd like to see him dive into something more serious in tone. He's gone through a lot of phases or times where he leans on a particular image or subject matter as all artists do. That being said, I'd like to see him do away with all the concepts and tropes he's been using for the past 17 years. I want something entirely original. A new idea. Which means avoiding retreading old topics and ideas such as his Slim Shady character. I really want to see him get away from the"Middle aged Slim Shady/under dog" thing he has going on. Perhaps he dives into his teenage years. He hasn't ever really dived into that time in his life all that much, at least not as much as his childhood/present life. So mainly, I want him to go in a new direction. DEFINITELY want a Weeknd & Lana feature. Darker tone and themes. Avoid juvenile/gratuitous/immature subject matter & punch lines. Production is key as I've mentioned before. Definitely would like him to collaborate with artists in the studio instead of just filling in verses over a beat that already has a hook. Actually collaboration leads to more creativity. And TES flow.
Jan 14, 2016 if em started rapping over trap beats then thug and future would start rapping over boom bap
Jan 14, 2016 That was a really nice post. I understand what you mean when you say that you want him to go in a new direction and change his persona but you have to understand that it's not gonna be that easy. That's all he's been doing from 1999-present and he won't be able to change the way he is entirely. Even if he does start making more "mature" songs, we're still gonna get Slim Shady on other songs and I actually want that. While I really love Em's more serious songs, I still want him to mess around with the Slim Shady persona some more before being done with it.
Jan 14, 2016 I gotcha man. I agree it won't be so easy to change after doing the same s--- for so long but thats where collaborating with new producers and artists will help. Being an ENTP personality type, I live and breathe change. So 17+ years of the same tropes/concepts no longer feel fresh to me, and have in my opinion collapsed into far less complex shadows of what they used to represent (the Slim Shady character being a huge part of that). To me, Em as an artist has become stagnant. Sure he still sells plenty, but what has he done in the last 10 years that truly felt innovative? New and fresh? I supposed you could say Relapse was new. But to me that was still an extension of the Slim Shady character, done worse this time around (Albeit with excellent production from Dre and a few gems). Recovery was at the very least a new direction musically. However both Recovery & MMLP2 don't feel all that fresh to me, because while his production choices may be new for him, they still feel stale to me. And really productions only half of it, the biggest part is I'd like to see new concepts. A new character or alter ego could be interesting. A new POV to make music from. THAT would be dope. Your only original for long. After a while, it's time to come up with something fresh. And after 8 solo albums, all of which are built on the same formula, it's time Em hits us with that new s--- "but you gotta gotta, Keep movin', There's more music to make, Keep makin' new s---, Produce hits to break"- Eminem, Square Dance (From The Eminem Show for anyone who is not aware)
Jan 14, 2016 I'm sure Em has taken all of these things into account and will definitely try something new. He's probably already found a new sound and is experimenting with it as we speak. I understand everything you're saying and I agree. How would you feel if Em produced his new album entirely by himself? I personally would really like that and I think it'd turn out great. Example: Most of The Eminem Show
