i went over to a family friend's house for dinner, and after we ate, their kids wanted to go outside and play ball on the driveway. the kids are younger, one is 9 and the other is 11. i'm coming off a hamstring injury, and the playoffs are on, so i got inspired to go out and s---t around with them. the net was at 8 feet, so i started (as we all do on smaller nets) with my best lebron impressions. tomahawking the ball in, putting it off the backboard to myself, etc.



anyways, a few of their neighbours came out when they seen we were playing, one 11 year old, one 13 year old, and a 16 year old. we decided to have a friendly game of 3 on 3, it was me (24 years old) and my fam friend's kids (9 and 11) vs the 11 year old, the 13 year old, and the 16 year old. i was playing PG and facilitating the ball, i would just draw a defender and dish to give the kids some easy layups. this was what me and my team looked like, i was like michael jordan and the tune squad.


at this point the parents had come out to watch as well. i felt a little embarrassed playing with these little kids, but i kept going. anyways it was all friendly until the other team started to pull ahead, so naturally, my competitive nature kicked in. i faked a pass and drove the lane and went up for a quick layup, and out of nowhere, the 16 year old close lines me while I'm in mid air. this is a very vulnerable spot for any individual, and i ended up coming down on the edge of the driveway on one ankle, and stumbling in to the lawn.


i brushed myself off, but at this point i had tunnel vision. the 16 year old took the ball from the top, and i locked in hard for the defense, eyes on his waist etc etc. i went back to the fundamentals our very first coach teaches us, i wasn't gonna let this n----- score. sure enough, i lunged for the pick on the dribble, and forced a turn over. i quickly ran out to the line to clear the ball, and then turned around with eyes on the rim. i was going to drive and tomahawk it in, make a statement.



well it turns out as i was so focused on the rim itself, i didn't see the 11 year old on the driveway standing in front of the net. as i went up, my knee went in to his face awkwardly, and when i finished the dunk, i landed over a sprawled out 11 year old. s--- was horrifying, especially since his parents were outside watching. it was sort of like this, except the kid was just standing there, f---:


after people rushed to the kid to see if he was okay, i shuffled out in my embarrassment and apologized to the parents. i thanked my family friends for hosting the dinner, and went home. my older bro, who witnessed the event was speechless. s--- was the most awkward drive home, both of us were sitting like this for the 10 minute car ride:



lesson learned, even if its just for fun, don't play ball with other people's kids b.
