Jan 13, 2016 Lil Wayne & Future are the two influences I hear most prominently -- doesn't mean they're all that's there, just that they're most obvious. The MJ comparison works to the extent that Thugger's got a great ear for melody and they both had an eccentric/awesome fashion sense. But to me it stops there, cause he was only about 25% vocalist. lol
Jan 13, 2016 man thug obviously hasnt heard of half these artist i mentioned but cant u see the thom yorke comparison i made? or idk if u listen to mars volta/at the drive in, but that too.
Jan 13, 2016 Haha the only other reference I'm well versed in was Anthony Kiedis, another one who has a sense of melody that's pretty much uniquely theirs (I know, I'm the worst kind of music fan; I have terrible tunnel vision/hearing). BSSM-era Chili Peppers bears a lot of resemblance to Thug IMO. A lot of the same... would you call it impressionism? I feel like there's a lot of emphasis on just articulating the pure emotion with rhythm and melody. Kiedis' lyrics almost always seem to "come second," like people often say about Thug.
Jan 13, 2016 exactly, its all about conveying narratives and stories through the way you emote rather than just whats on paper. first time i heard this song i was tripping, and when i heard the "yaw" i lost my s--- lmaoo (amazing song)
