The key to really getting this thing back to what it used to be...is getting members. It's been argued before so let me reiterate it; we need to appeal to a demographic of fans that want to discuss their favorite artists in an amiable environment that few other forums offer.
We attracted a wave of disgruntled users from other forums (KTT, RG, etc.) because we offered a whole different experience, incentives were encouraged, off-topic was a gold mine of equal parts absurdity and activity when music discussion dried up. All on top of a group of staff that really put effort into cultivating new ideas that kept the machine running, we were unstoppable from 15-17.
A lot of great points and suggestions have been made in this darn thread, it's just a matter of effort and application. Deep down I do hope to see this place rise from the ashes

seriously though are Stans/eminem the jews of music forums or something
getting tougher on Stans and eminem content never solved anything but every time there's a debate on how to desperately save the rotting corpse of the forum it's always back to blaming eminem/stans again with a fresh new theory
Anyway what would it take to forget our shady records heritage anyway. This forum's been up for years now and unlike previous ones hasn't been advertised as being eminem centred. And there's enough new blood to dilute the old stan genome completely but the stigma is always there cos of the historyDKC, Ordinary Joel, Dirty F and 2 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Honestly, as much as I appreciate the work that goes in here, I feel like forums are generally on the decline. But also the new particular format kinda seems cluttered to me or whatever, like aggregating everything in one place just highlights the lack of activity?
Here’s my genuine recommendation: there need to be incentives to post. Bring back Rep. Or steal from reddit and allow down votes. There needs to be a rationale for people to engage here and not on reddit, or snap chat or Kik. You def have pockets of cliques who met and communicated here, but now are just group text buddies. Dunno how you solve it but they should come back into the fold. Or I hate to call out @Dew and bc lol but I see them tweeting in a vacuum, no one responds lol, when they should just share the same thoughts here and have a captive audience. Dunno if or how we break that fever but def feels like a challenge.
There’s so much music discussion online I wish I knew a simple fix to corral conversation here.Dew, Kevin, Ordinary Joel and 2 others like this. -

That being said...
The average person has a reddit/fb/twitter account and is going to go there for discussion, plain and simple. I don't think forums will ever die out completely, but at this point they're always gonna be for more niche discussion/super fans of different artists/mediums/shows/etc. People are coming to forums for a forum experience...and I think certain aspects of 3.0 in its initial form tried to mimic a social media experience too much, which is why it turned people off from it.
Dislikes ain't it. KTT doesn't even have a like button. The leakthis member base is pretty bad (no surprise since it was funneled directly from reddit), but if we're gonna switch up the like button one thing I think they did right was allow you to pick from multiple reacts (like you can on facebook) and the 'like' count just counts the number of reacts total and you have to click into it to see how
many of each kind of react. I believe their only "dislike" react is the clown face.rapmusik, Guma, Ordinary Joel and 2 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I’m not good at giving this kind of ideas since I only was a mod to a local dying forum and was there for the years that was only trolls left to k--- it totally.
I just wanna say since you mentioned older versions and from my perspective that the thing that made me post daily and more was the milestones to reach to plus member status. And I think many people here was doing that while being able to have fun in here (s/I to @Rick for our daily back and forth posts). So maybe a system like that will bring some activity? Idk if it sounds stupid or not, just talkin from my perspective.
Also like @icecube said I think along with that a dislike button is needed to prevent spamming at pointless posts just for the milestones. Make it like with an x amount of dislikes you lose points and stuff like that. But also gotta be careful about abusing dislike button cause it gotta be about post quality and not sympathies imo.
Just my 2 scents, hope I helped a bit. Thanks for all the great work you’ve been doing. -

I don't need to compete with my clones. That makes no sense.. I don't want to run it again, you still haven't even paid me for last time. I just want him to admit he is the one who made the tweets. No one needs to get hurt.joeyp363, Lucy, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this. -

edit -- i dont think this design thing is a huge game changer btw. just personal preferences. encouraging engagement is the Key, and the overall layout is just a piece but not that enticing in a vacuum

Right now when I visit the forum it doesn’t really feel like it has sections, if that makes sense? Everything feels all jumbled together as part of one board instead of a forum with distinct subsections.Zeugma, Ordinary Joel, Bojack and 1 other person like this. -

And I guess I also don’t see what’s wrong with it especially if more people liked it that way. Sure it could look a little “cleaner” In terms of icons and such but as far as functionality goes I much prefer being able to see an overview of the site all at once like that.Zeugma, Ordinary Joel, Bojack and 1 other person like this.
