Mar 11, 2018 Sounds about right to me with economies of scale and all. 40 might be a bit much but 25-30 isn't unreasonable.
Mar 11, 2018 That's not what I said, you're just trying to straw man me. What constitutes "a living wage" is a different in different places depending on the cost of living.
Mar 11, 2018 Yes, in my county a single parent working full time with 2 kids needs 40 an hour for "living wage" You said all people should be earning living wage Whats stopping a single parent with 2 kids from just working at mcdonalds and getting her 40 an hour? Living wage is a concept that literally wouldnt work, sadly
Mar 11, 2018 I can't really comment on this since I don't know how much a 'living' costs over there but I do think everyone should earn enough to get basic supplies for a living. In Holland we do have that, a minimum wage.
Mar 11, 2018 We do too. You can survive off minimum wage in america People do make enough to survive in america. Like all things, there are lots of variables.
Mar 11, 2018 I know, minimum wage is already set high enough to survive on your own. Hence why its minimum wage. Lol yes because its that simple Spoiler: Hint its not
Mar 11, 2018 Yeah people who barely make it and then choose (this is important) to have 2 kids knowing they can't provide a decent living is bad too imo
Mar 11, 2018 Yes, everyone deserves a living wage. I'm not an economist or a politician so I don't have a perfect solution without any kinks in it, but from what I understand, it sounds like you'd rather pay people less money and have more poor people for...what reason? Just because you don't think someone should get paid more money for low-skill work? What's the benefit of having more rich people and more poor people instead of having a bigger middle class? I'm not necessarily saying a mcdonald's employee should make $40 an hour, but a McDonald's employee should make enough to feed themselves, pay rent, and have a bit of money saved. For a single mother of two, enough WIC/EBT/food stamps should be given to help split the difference. Man, all I'm saying is we should take care of our people first and try to get rich second. We have a minimum wage here too, but it's not always enough to support people. LOL but you just said it costs $40 in your county to support a single mother of two? Where the f--- is the min wage $40 an hour?
Mar 11, 2018 @Big Cuntry how does that minimum wage work there? Like is it for one person or does it also look at a household? Like here we have a minimum wage for a person at a job but people that have kids get extra money from the government to support their kids if their job isn't paying them enough.
Mar 11, 2018 Min wage only applies to an individual as far as I know, but people with kids can get assistance from the government too. I don't know much about how much/how you can get it cuz I don't have kids.
Mar 11, 2018 It seems like its kind of the same then but obviously there will be differences in amounts. Kinda hard to compare those though since living in US differs from here.. not even mentioning the differences in states lol
Mar 11, 2018 Yeah man. At the end of the day, I just think taking care of your people is important no matter where you live. I'm sure the Netherlands is overall better off than the US in that department—I just read you guys are the sixth happiest country on earth, only behind Denmark and Norway and s---.
Mar 11, 2018 Lol lets say mcdonalds offers 40 dollars an hour for a patty flipper for single parents with two kids. Whats stopping all single parents with 2 kids from working at mcdonalds? Whats stopping people from adopting two kids and mooching the money? I wish it was possible but it isnt And it does, but its not the governments fault a person with a s-----y job had 2 kids and cant support themselves with one job. They have to work more or make adjustments I do feel there should be government support for child care if possible though
Mar 11, 2018 Honestly, like everywhere, people here complain. But they don't have a clue how good we have it here compared to lots of countries. I think the support here from the government (financially, health care etc) is very good and we are lucky to live here. Obviously I can only speak for myself and I'm doing very well but when I compare the overal quality of living in Holland compared to others, we're fine. But yeah you're right everyone deserves to have a decent living. I do think people need to work for it though (if they can/are able to) but that's a different story of course.
Mar 11, 2018 Thats the "living wage" for a single parent with 2 kids in my county yall are talking about. I dont think you understand how lazy people and/or economics work
