Jun 29, 2015 I honestly think this is a phase, just as his recovery yelling and relapse accents were I mean, I hope it's a phase lol
Jun 29, 2015 a higher degree, not in comparison to kanye, but in general. This isn't a value judgement on his music. This is just an observation.
Jun 29, 2015 if you think eminem is "sacrificing accessibility" in the service of "integrity" you're either naive or deaf. everything he's done since relapse has been tailored for major commercial success, sync deals, etc. your statement is laughably dumb in isolation, but even in context of this conversation--kanye's last album was yeezus. two albums before that, 808s. eminem fans are funny. they turn up their nose and kanye having other people in the room while he writes, but ignore the fact that eminem will have entire songs with beats, titles, concepts, and hooks in place delivered to him. he just fills in the blanks.
Jun 29, 2015 You're ignoring critical points in my statement. And for the record, I am a fan of many artists beyond Eminem, including Kanye. While the production and direction of Eminem's music has taken a commercial route (arguably, Kanye's has to to some extent), the CREATION PROCESS of his lyrics has remained consistent throughout his entire career. No one assisted Eminem in writing his verses on Not Afraid and LTWYL, his too major commercial successes post-hiatus. This speaks to a desire to retain artistic integrity. This also speaks to a sacrifice in accessibility for specific crowds (hip-hop heads, underground fans, specific age brackets, etc.) and the reason for this is to satisfy marketing trends and that is something that all commercial artists do (even kanye). Eminem's songs being given to him with the beat ready and chorus already in place does not speak to his creative process when it comes to the actual writing of his lyrics for his verses. He doesn't' employ 20 people to write HIS verses. There is a core difference there between Eminem and Kanye. And to make a blanket statement about eminem's song construction regarding pre-made beats is naive and a gross generalization. Stop picking apart my statement to satisfy your own agenda to demoralize and marginalize Eminem's entire artistic effort post-hiatus.
Jun 29, 2015 yes i am saying if Em allowed others to write for him, it would be cool with all of you?
Jun 29, 2015 Narsh, learn to read before you respond. I specifically said his actual rapped verses. I wasn't making any comment on the hooks/bridges or melodies in his songs. Just the lyrics in his rapped verses.
Jun 29, 2015 could you imagine if jay Z wrote eminem's renegade verse? would that mean... jay Z renegaded himself?
Jun 29, 2015 how is writing 16 bars about a pre-determined subject on someone else's beat with someone else's hook (and the song even titled for you) evidence of more "integrity" than a song where the artist produces the beat, creates the lyrics and vocals, but accepts a line or two from someone else?
Jun 29, 2015 my n-----, i was making an observation about Eminem without comparing him to Kanye. Eminem could easily employ hella writers and creative thinkers to make his music really f---ing good sounding but instead, he choses to continue to write his lyrics himself. That is where he sacrifices the quality and palatability of his music for artistic integrity. Its not that f---ing complicated dog. Kanye takes the other route and in turn, his music sounds better and is generally more appealing to a more vibrant and culturally relevant audience than Eminem. Kanye also has a lot artistic integrity, just in different ways. Everything doesn't have to be an 'Eminem vs. (insert artist)' discussion. Edit: and again, your analysis of Eminem's creative process is a gross and wide generalization and a disservice to your own listening experience.
