Sep 10, 2015 Also this question is kinda weird.. imagine replacing Kendrick's name with one of our artistic forum members.. that's hurtful tbh.
Sep 10, 2015 It wouldn't compare because his two albums aren't as good as biggies, and his influence and reach wouldn't even be comparable
Sep 10, 2015 As far as being a quality artist goes, Kendricks surpassed prime Em tho...but that's a thread I made like 2 years ago on SL
Sep 10, 2015 That's because it's easy to see an artists/albums influence with 20 years of hindsight. Kendrick released TPAB months ago and it's impossible to see how it's influenced music right in the middle of everything going on. No one knew 808s influence until years after it's release and it's only now starting to become a well respected album. Also GKMC effectively completely revitalised West Coast rap.
Sep 10, 2015 Okay so then u agree that saying Kendrick is in the same convo as biggie is dumb because we haven't had enough time to see his influence and other aspects of his career pan out? Word
Sep 10, 2015 Except one artist has albums that have garnered years and years of positive aging and lasting influence. You can't just compare them like they are one and the same like that.
Sep 10, 2015 not arguing it'd be justified, but if kendrick died today he would be placed in the same category as big and pac...again not saying it's right, but that's exactly what would happen
Sep 10, 2015 The hypocrisy on this thread is amazing (from myself included). Everyone gave me s--- for asserting my opinion on Kendrick as if it were fact and that is literally what everyone else is doing. This argument will not end unless we accept that if someone thinks something then it is true, if not to anyone else then it is to the beholder of the opinion.
Sep 10, 2015 i've written pretty extensively on each of em's first three albums, you might think i'm wrong, but i'm not being dismissive.
Sep 10, 2015 sure but that wasn't his statement. you can probably make an argument that kendrick's first 3 > em's first 3 but prime em was an artist beyond albums...he was tossing away tracks like bad influence, my words are weapons, if I get locked up tonight, etc. like they were nothing...this can't be ignored when comparing an artist's prime
Sep 10, 2015 the same logic was brought up in defense of kendrick earlier in this thread, w/r/t "control" et al.
